Job Description

Join us, be part of more.

We’re so much more than an energy company. We’re a family of brands revolutionising how we power the planet. We're energisers. One team of 21,000 colleagues that’s energising a greener, fairer future by creating an energy system that doesn’t rely on fossil fuels, whilst living our powerful commitment to igniting positive change in our communities. Here, you can find more purpose, more passion and more potential. That’s why working here is #MoreThanACareer. We do energy differently – we do it all. We make it, store it, move it, sell it and mend it.

About your team:

At Centrica Energy, our mission is to move it.

We’re energy movers by nature. We’re a global renewable energy trading company which helps move energy from source to use – powering businesses, homes, and societies as they transition to a new sustainable energy future. If the idea of working to create a sustainable energy future also moves you, we may very well be the right place for you.

About your team:

Centrica Energy is a global energy trading business, that operates at the heart of global energy markets moving power, gas and LNG across markets, borders and time horizons. We connect producers, suppliers and offtakers, supporting the integration of renewables, flexibility and low‑carbon fuels in the energy system and transforming ambition into reliable, scalable solutions that push the green transition forward. In short, we call ourselves energy movers by nature, driven by the purpose of energising a greener, fairer future.

  • We trade power and gas across more than 30 markets in Europe and North America, operating 24/7/365 across all major trading venues and horizons.

  • We manage a portfolio of 18.6 GW of renewable generation and flexible assets under management, including wind, solar, batteries and demand‑side flexibility.

  • We trade LNG globally, optimising cargoes across regions and market conditions to support security of supply and system balance

From our trading hubs in Aalborg and London and offices across Europe, Asia and North America, we combine market access, optimisation capability and deep quantitative expertise to deliver value in increasingly complex and volatile energy systems.

The Graduate Programme

As a Graduate Commodity Trading Analyst, you will join a highly selective two‑year graduate programme designed for graduates who want to work at the sharp end of energy markets and learn how commercial decisions are made and priced in real time.

You will complete three eight‑month rotations, working hands‑on with experienced traders, analysts, originators and commercial specialists. From day one, you will work with live markets, real positions and real data, contributing to decisions that directly impact P&L, risk and optimisation outcomes.

Your rotations may span areas such as:

  • Renewable Energy Trading & Optimisation (RET&O)

  • Short‑term and long‑term power, gas and LNG trading

  • Market analytics, modelling and quantitative analysis

  • Origination and structured commodity contracts

  • Risk, portfolio optimisation and commercial finance

At least one rotation will sit outside the Front Office, giving you a full understanding of the trading lifecycle, from deal structuring and market access to risk management and settlement.

International exposure is a core part of the programme. You will have the opportunity to complete one international rotation, working from other Centrica Energy hubs such as London and gaining insight into global commodity markets and cross‑border trading dynamics.

Learning by Doing

We believe the best traders and analysts are built through responsibility, not observation. As a graduate at Centrica Energy, you will be trusted early, challenged intellectually and encouraged to form your own commercial views. We support your development through:

  • A structured technical and personal development programme

  • Close collaboration with leading practitioners in energy trading and optimisation

  • A dedicated mentor from day one

  • Continuous feedback and clear performance expectations

This programme is designed to develop future commercial leaders and specialists in energy trading, analytics and optimisation. It is demanding by design, but equally rewarding for those who thrive in complex, fast‑moving markets.

Who We’re Looking For

We are looking for graduates who are curious about markets, comfortable with complexity and motivated by value creation. You are likely to be a strong fit if you:

  • Are completing, or have recently completed, a Master’s degree in a highly quantitative field such as Applied Economics, Engineering, Mathematics or Physics

  • Enjoy working with data, models and uncertainty to inform commercial decisions

  • Have hands‑on experience with programming or analytical tools (e.g. Python, MATLAB, C or similar)

  • Are interested in how energy markets work - and how they are evolving through the green transition

  • Combine strong analytical skills with clear communication and a collaborative mindset

Most importantly, you are ambitious, intellectually curious and motivated to learn from some of the best traders, analysts and optimisation specialists in the energy market.

Practicalities:

Location: Aalborg, Denmark

Start dates: June or September 2026

Programme length: 2 years
