Financial Regulation Advisor
Centrica Energy is the trading arm of Centrica. We trade power, gas, LNG, and energy attributes and connect producers, suppliers and off takers in the wholesale energy markets - and we provide our clients with the best route-to-market services available to the market today with physical and financial settlement approaches. We’re a total of 850+ colleagues from over 50 different nations, located in 8 different offices around the world. At our London office, where this role is located, you’ll be joining our international office with over 300 dedicated energy specialists.
As our business sets up for further success, we are looking for a Financial Regulation Advisor to join our fantastic Financial Regulation team! The Financial Regulation team is a rapidly developing part of Centrica Energy’s wider Ethics and Compliance (“E&C”) function which is responsible for implementing an effective framework to manage risks related to compliance and regulatory obligations.
As a Financial Regulation Advisor, you will report to the Head of Financial Regulation and assist with managing all regulatory compliance matters across Centrica Energy globally. This is a role that offers excellent exposure to senior stakeholders as well as development opportunities as long as you’re someone with a determined and ‘can-do’ attitude.
The role is based out of our London office (close to Marble Arch) with 3 days per week typically based within the office. There is also a requirement for occasional travel to other Centrica Energy offices in Europe.
What you’ll be doing:
Assist undertaking of detailed impact assessments for key upcoming regulations.
Conduct regulatory mapping of obligations to business requirements and controls.
Support in-depth understanding, analysis, and interpretation of relevant regulations (e.g., MiFID II, MAR, EMIR, and REMIT).
Collaborate with other support functions e.g., Regulatory Affairs, Legal, Risk and Finance to understand the impact of upcoming regulations.
Assist training sessions on upcoming regulations e.g., REMIT II.
Assist with ad-hoc queries from other E&C members (e.g., advisory, surveillance).
Act as a subject matter expert and assist the projects team when implementing regulatory requirements.
Review obligations from TSOs and license conditions across Europe and UK.
Act a Regulatory reporting liaison leading on matters that arise from the Commercial Operations team.
Responsible for regulatory horizon scanning; monitoring of key regulatory changes across Denmark, Europe and UK and triaging relevant information to the team.
We have a few must-haves:
Experience working with regulations within the energy or financial services sector.
Industry, regulator, or trade association experience is desirable.
Understanding of financial services, market abuse in wholesale energy markets, balancing markets, trading, regulatory reporting, policy, and procedure frameworks.
Ability to keep abreast of regulatory changes in a fast and dynamic environment.
Strong teamwork skills – ability to work part of a wider team to meet the team’s objectives.
Strong stakeholder management skills: excellent verbal, presentation, managing upwards and writing skills.
Experience of working with exchanges and system operators is desirable.
Proven experience of working flexibly and delivering on time to a high standard.
Be willing to travel (up to 15%).
