Centrica Energy is the trading arm of Centrica. We’re a total of 850+ colleagues from over 50 different nations, located in 8 different offices around the world. At our London office, where this role is located, you’ll be joining our international office with over 300 dedicated energy specialists.

The Head of UK IT Infrastructure Delivery plays a pivotal role in shaping and executing the strategic vision for Centrica Energy’s key infrastructure platforms and systems. This role has comprehensive oversight and ownership of critical infrastructure projects and programs, ensuring they not only align seamlessly with the agreed strategy but also deliver robust, end-to-end solutions that drive the organisation’s technological advancement and operational excellence.

The role is based out of our central London office (close to Marble Arch) with 3 days per week based within the office.

There is also a requirement for occasional travel to other Centrica Energy offices (e.g. Denmark (Copenhagen & Aalborg)) and this is expected to be once every 2-3 months.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Maintain ownership of Infrastructure delivery for Centrica Energy ensuring this aligns to agreed strategy and deliver appropriate end to end solutions.

  • Team leadership - lead the team comprising of Architects, SMEs and Project Managers

  • Proactively present change and innovation into the organisation and not be afraid to fail!

  • Work closely with the infrastructure and architecture across the CE Global environment and wider Enterprise

    • Understand Infrastructure initiatives and assess impact of change

    • Ensure infrastructure provides a robust and reliable platform to deliver Centrica Energy UK hosted applications

    • Provide guidance and advice were appropriate

    • Work towards the One Centrica Energy principal though better infrastructure alignment, closer integration.

  • Work closely with information Security ensuring that Infrastructure solutions adhere to best practice security principals and have appropriate approvals within the Group

  • Work with development managers, leads and architects to understand IT change, ensure good infrastructure principals are adhered to and facilitate infrastructure delivery where required

  • Work closely with the Global Head EUC and Digital Workplace and Head of InfoSec to understand operational issues, contribute where necessary and identify areas for improvement that can be delivered though future projects

  • Keep abreast of industry developments, including vendor product strategies and advancements

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with counterparts in Centrica Group and the team in Denmark

  • Build and lead infrastructure project and small change delivery team

  • Maintain oversight and report on a regular basis progress of all ongoing infrastructure projects to CE IT leadership

  • Develop a view of key infrastructure CE should develop and potentially deviate from Group provided services, champion these initiatives for funding though to delivery

  • Delegate to and manage outsourced partner resources both on shore and offshore.

We have a few must-haves:

  • Significant experience of having worked within a global trading or similar organisation leading an Infrastructure teams in a complex mixed Microsoft, Linux, on premise and Azure/AWS Cloud environment

  • Demonstrable architectural knowledge and expertise in areas such as the below:

    • Windows and Linux Server virtual environments

    • Citrix Cloud and Citrix application delivery

    • Server Virtualisation and Virtual Desktop environments

    • HA and DR technologies

    • Identity Management

    • Storage, SAN, NAS, Backup technologies

    • Security and Certificate Services

    • Active Directory, Exchange, Collaboration Tools

    • Service Management

    • Oracle and Microsoft SQL Databases

    • Networking technologies

    • SaaS and PaaS services

    • AWS and Azure Cloud technologies

    • Understanding Trading Architecture

    • Experience of AI tools and where these could be inserted into existing environment

    • Keen understanding of digitalisation

  • Experience managing BAU and project budgets

  • Ability to quickly and thoroughly understand business requirements and translate into technical solutions

  • Ability to balance changing demands through being pragmatic, flexible and focusing on the right business outcomes

  • Excellent communication skills with an ability to present, discuss and explain issues clearly often disseminating important messages to an executive audience

  • Decision making capabilities with ability to judge situations and assess when to escalate issues

  • Work effectively with onshore, offshore and outsourced teams.
