Employment type:  Full time

Job Description

We are Centrica! We’re so much more than an energy company. We’re a family of brands revolutionising a cleaner, greener future. Working here is #MoreThanACareer - we’re powered by purpose. Together we can make an impact that will truly change tomorrow. Whether you’re developing cutting-edge green tech, helping customers on the front line or simplifying operations behind the scenes.

Your work here isn’t just a job – it’s a mission. We all play a vital role in energising a greener, fairer future.

Financial Imbalance Analysis and Risk Manager

We’re looking for a brilliant Financial Imbalance Analysis and Risk Manager to join our team of colleagues in British Gas Business, that together are setting the standard in energy supply.

In the complicated world of energy, we strive to make energy simple, creating a straightforward and hassle-free experience for our customers.

Our philosophy is success comes when we’re in it together, trusting each other and having fun along the way. And because we’ve got big plans to help our homes and businesses get closer to net zero, we can’t stand still. We need to be always learning, ready to grow and move forward.

Purpose:

You will play an essential role in interpreting and controlling the drivers of imbalance between the volumes we bill our customers and the volumes we are settled to in the gas and electricity industries. You will explain and validate the industry processes that determine our settled position, and you will build strong links with process owners across our business where they have an impact on financial imbalance to drive continuous improvement. You will also be instrumental in mitigating risks to financial imbalance from settlement reform and platform migrations.

Your key accountabilities would be:

  • Own the interpretation, explanation, and assurance of the non-domestic financial imbalance position to stakeholders at all levels of seniority, including colleagues in operations and finance.
  • Own the delivery of the imbalance scan. Ensure the data analysis is produced accurately and delivers the insights required to prioritise operational imbalance workstreams.
  • Analyse and mitigate the risks to financial imbalance of mass migrations that will be driven by the market-wide half hourly programme and platform changes.
  • Link in with regulatory, forecasting, and metering colleagues to understand and influence how our settled position evolves through reconciliation.
  • Work closely with our join and leave, billing and finance colleagues to ensure we can interpret the drivers of the billed position, including prior period corrections.
  • Steer day-to-day and strategic work to improve our financial imbalance position.

Competencies

  • We are looking for someone with an analytical approach to problem solving, with excellent communication and influencing skills. You will be required to deliver clear explanations of the outcomes of complicated processes to senior stakeholders.
  • You will have the ability to think strategically to drive innovative solutions.
  • Project management skills will be required, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage timelines, and deliver results within set deadlines.
  • You will continue to build on a solid base of understanding of gas and electricity settlement data flows and industry processes.

It would also be an advantage to have:

  • A knowledge of analytics tools, technologies, and methodologies, including Azure Databricks, SQL and Excel.
  • Qualifications in a numerate discipline such as maths, statistics, computing, or engineering although this is not essential.

At Centrica we embrace diversity and actively seek to attract individuals with unique backgrounds and perspectives. To build a more sustainable future, we need the best team – a team with a diverse mix of people and skills, where everyone feels welcome and able to succeed. We are dedicated in helping to close the diversity gap and would love to see more females, people of colour and LGBTQ+ employees, as well as those from a variety of cultures and ethnicity to veterans and the differently abled. Supporting diversity and inclusion is a big part of who we are, we are not looking for people to fit into our culture but to add to it!
