Role Overview
- With continuing high energy bills customer debt within Centrica is an area of high importance, with significant senior management and audit focus.
- Reporting to the Energy Debt Manager, this high-profile role is responsible for the end-to-end accounting processes covering Business Gas Business (BGB) and Centrica’s New Energy Billing Platform (NEP) with a combined valuation of: Trade Receivables (c£3bn); Bad Debt Provision (c£1bn); P&L Bad Debt Charge (c£0.5bn).
- Analysis and communication of P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash and Working Capital results to key stakeholders.
- To be ‘best practice’ leader across Centrica in Financial Control, using automation tools to continually develop processes / analysis required for decision making.
Location - Flexible hybrid working with offices in Windsor / Leicester / Stockport
Role Responsibilities
Responsible for key month end accounting processes, including:
- Provide support to Energy Debt Manager and the Director, Financial Control on all financial accounting and regulatory matters across Energy Supply.
- Consolidation and reporting of the bad debt provision and bad debt charge, including reconciliation of write offs.
- Ownership of the complex debt month end for BGB, liaising closely with the following teams: Business Finance; Finance Systems; Revenue Assurance and Debt Analytics to ensure the variety of inputs into the process are understood and accurately treated.
- Play a key role in the consolidation and reporting of debt within the fast-growing New Energy Platform.
- Opportunity to develop automation skills to enhance debt accounting processes across two business units.
- End-to-end management and delivery of all financial controls relating to BGB and NEP customer debt.
- Ensure all financial processes are robust, well controlled/documented and adapt to the changing needs of the business. This will include working with Risk & Controls team to ensure effectiveness of controls, as well as regular submissions.
- Building close working relationships across Finance teams ensuring alignment in thinking and consistency of presentation.
- External reporting and audit support – taking ownership of the numbers & dealing with related auditor queries, as well as working with the wider Financial Control team to complete half yearly submissions.
- Close contact with offshore General Accounting team to ensure balance sheet reconciliations prepared are robust and complete.
- Ad hoc projects and analysis as required.
About You: Knowledge and Experience
- Preferably Qualified Accountant (ACA, CIMA, ACCA)
- Degree (or equivalent) level education
- Strong Excel skills
- Accomplished in working with and manipulating large amounts of data
- Strong systems skills to preferably include SAP ERP/ISU/Power BI
- Strong analytical skills with ability to communicate complex matters effectively (written & verbal)
- Proven ability of working at a high level of accuracy against tight deadlines
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Strong organisation and prioritisation skills
- Track record of taking the initiative to deliver improvements and new insight into financial/performance analysis in order to further the businesses success
- Team player who can adapt to changes as they occur
