Role type: Permanent (9 day fortnight)

Location: London or Milton Keynes (minimum of two days a week in the office. You can do more than two days if preferable)

Role description

The Director of New Mobility Technologies works across CPC and with external stakeholders to accelerate innovation and build the economy to service the creation of truly connected places.

The Director will be expected to work in collaboration with the Executive Director for Delivery and across the organisation to operationalise the CPC strategic plan and ensure the effective implementation, delivery and evaluation of projects, programmes and operational activities.

The Director is accountable for the delivery of a broad portfolio of projects and will lead programme teams to deliver work that creates tangible impact on time, within budget and to an expected level of quality.

The Director will be able to apply and direct technical transport knowledge into impactful innovation projects and programmes. The Director will demonstrate domain gravitas and expertise and act as an advocate for Mobility capability, both internally and externally.

The role holder will be expected to have the ability to make connections across transport systems, related sectors, and apply systems engineering thinking into innovation. This position requires a strong background in innovation, exceptional analytical skills and the ability to manage the translation of complex data into actionable insights.

Key Responsibilities:

· Provide leadership, mentorship and development to the New Mobility Technologies’ specialist teams by role modelling standards of professional conduct, inclusion, commercial acumen, and managing towards high performance.

· Accountable for the programmes of work for New Mobility Technologies projects, including engagement and the development and delivery of collaborative activities with academic research partners, private sector partners and government agencies

· Effective management of programme resources ensuring achievement of target archetype utilisation for permanent and fixed term employees, and project resources are brought into the organisation in a timely and appropriate manner to ensure programme deliverables and KPIs are met. This may include developing and managing framework agreements with contracted resources and service providers in collaboration with the Catapult’s commercial team.

· Accountable and Responsible to the Executive Director of Delivery for ensuring projects deliver in line with CPC’s strategy and as per the bid submission

· Accountable to Executive Director of Delivery for delivering the budgeted project days across the Directorate

· Working with the Engagement team, have responsibility for driving revenue into CPC in line with the strategy and operational plan

· Support Ecosystem Directors in directing the strategy for the Catapult’s New Mobility and Transport activities, ensuring CPC corporate strategic aims are aligned and contributing to corporate strategy as required.

· Support revenue generation into CPC in line with the strategy, operational plan and programme areas, ensuring high quality bids for work are made and an acceptable win ratio and targets met.

· Represent CPC and the New Mobilities directorate to relevant stakeholders, internal and external and at public events. This includes providing strategic advice to the Corporate Leadership Team (CLT), CPC Board (and relevant sub-committees on projects) as well as presenting using thematic expertise as and when appropriate.

· Use your specialist knowledge and expertise, to provide hands-on insight and input into deliverable work as required

· Ensuring appropriate sponsorship and project reporting is undertaken in line with defined project governance standards and requirements, working with project teams on issues and risks that have been escalated by project managers, resolving or escalating further to the Executive Director of Delivery.

· Accountable to the client for project delivery and responsible for holding project managers to account for manging project delivery.

· Accountable for quality assurance for projects, including sign off of deliverables.

· Responsible for ensuring corporate information is properly cascaded to team members as required, and business confidential information is maintained appropriately.

· This role will require some travel and may also require the management of teams in multiple locations.

· Ensuring an ethos of equity, inclusivity and diversity underpin your work activity, contributing to inclusive innovation across all Catapult activities.

· You may be required to undertake any other reasonable duties to support the Catapult in achieving its strategic outcomes and ensure effective business operations.

· Actively promote the capabilities of the Catapult and the New Mobility Technologies team both externally and within the organisation.

Requirements

· Demonstrable prior experience in systems engineering, technical research and development, advancing technology through readiness levels, demonstrators and/or prototypes. Previous experience in transport systems, systems engineering or related sectors is essential.

· Significant prior experience leading multidisciplinary teams of professionals including demonstrable experience in exceeding target revenue generation and delivering real impact through project work

· A clear understanding of the needs of transport systems in decarbonisation, the use of data, innovation, digital technology and/or challenges for demonstrator projects, and the credibility to build networks across these groups

· Previous experience in operationalising strategic organisational objectives, and managing business units and teams towards achievement of those goals

· Significant previous experience managing a budget for a business unit, with the capability to understand and interpret management information for business decision-making.
