Job Description

About the role

As a Solution Architect Specialist, you will be responsible for designing, building, and optimizing advanced messaging solutions that leverage a mix of Java (WebLogic/Spring Boot), React/Angular, and AWS technologies. You will guide the architecture of the customer messaging platform, ensuring a robust and scalable design while adhering to best practices like Clean Architecture and microservices principles.
You will work closely with engineering, product management, and business stakeholders to deliver effective, high-performance messaging solutions across multiple channels.

What you’ll be doing

• Solution Design: Lead the design and architecture of end-to-end messaging solutions using Java (WebLogic/Spring Boot), Microsoft Graphmail API. React/Angular, AWS, SQL, and NoSQL databases, ensuring they meet business needs, scalability, security, and performance standards.
• Clean Architecture/ Microservices Architecture: Apply Clean Architecture principles to ensure modular, testable, and maintainable code that supports long-term business goals. Design microservices-based architectures for handling customer messaging workflows, ensuring high availability and low latency.
• Cloud Solutions: Design and implement solutions leveraging AWS cloud services to provide scalable and cost-effective architectures.
• Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership and mentorship to development teams in implementing solution designs, adhering to best practices, and adopting new technologies.
• Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate with product managers, business analysts, and other teams to gather and define requirements, ensuring technical alignment with business goals.
• Database Architecture: Architect and design SQL and NoSQL database solutions for storing and processing customer data efficiently, ensuring data integrity and security.
• Documentation & Reporting: Prepare and maintain architectural documentation, roadmaps, and technical specifications to ensure clear communication with stakeholders.
• Continuous Improvement: Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and innovations in software architecture, cloud computing, and messaging technologies to ensure British Telecom’s messaging platform remains at the forefront of the industry.

Essential Skills / Experience

• 10-12 years of professional experience as a Solution Architect in software development, with a focus on customer messaging systems.
• Strong experience with Java (WebLogic, Spring Boot) and web technologies (React/Angular).
• Expertise in designing cloud-based solutions, particularly on AWS, with hands-on experience in services like EC2, Lambda, S3, RDS, and API Gateway.
• Experience in SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., MySQL, MongoDB, DynamoDB) and data architecture principles.
• Solid understanding of Clean Architecture/ Microservices architecture, System design patterns.
• Proven ability to lead and mentor development teams, ensuring high-quality delivery and adherence to best practices.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to innovate in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders and clearly explain technical concepts.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Good to have certifications such as:
o AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional
o TOGAF Certification for enterprise architecture

Desirable Skills / Experience

• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments and participating in agile ceremonies (stand-ups, sprint planning, retrospectives).
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and tools like Jenkins, GitLab, or AWS CodePipeline.
• Knowledge of modern messaging protocols (e.g., IBM MQ, Rabbit MQ, Kafka, Weblogic JMS) and integration patterns for high-throughput messaging systems.
• Ability to design for high availability, disaster recovery, and fault tolerance in messaging systems.
