About the role

This role works in the engineering delivery and operational excellence across Remote Access capabilities, with a strong working knowledge of Citrix virtual apps/desktops and Zscaler zero-trust access patterns

What you’ll be doing

• Engineering & delivery
o Supports on the implementation of technical solutions for both customers and colleagues and delivers on the resolution of inter-system issues, working within cross-functional squads to assist in creating and implementing technical solutions for a domain or cross domain activity within a specific technology area.
o Supports in the execution of technical decisions, technology choices and architecture for a wide range of high-performance products, capabilities, and platforms, effectively balancing short-term impact with long-term transformation.
o Adoption of modern engineering practices, tooling, and methods that progressively advance service capabilities.
o Supports the design and development of software solutions in accordance with the wider architecture and security standards
o Undertakes technical reviews to continually update knowledge and skills in software engineering principles and practices, ensuring a base level of technical specialism proficiency to enable industry and quality standards to positively impact work and colleagues

• Remote Access platform
o Provide day-to-day engineering update to leadership for Remote Access platforms, operating as a hands-on technical person where needed, and ensuring excellent cross-team collaboration.
o Supports with the designs of technical specifications and development of Citrix solutions of smaller and /or less complex initiatives in partnership with team, contributing towards the
quality of delivery
o Translate the agreed access architecture into actionable engineering backlogs, runbooks, and measurable outcomes (e.g., experience, stability, adoption, compliance).
o Work with security and governance stakeholders to ensure Remote Access services remain secure-by-design and compliant with organisational standards.
o Citrix focus areas
o Maintains systems by monitoring and correcting software defects
o Service engineering for Citrix-based desktop/apps delivery, including resilience, performance, and lifecycle hygiene (patching/upgrades/compatibility).
o Improve platform stability and experience outcomes (e.g., measurable logon performance and defect/bug burn-down as part of engineering engagement).
o Zscaler focus areas (examples of scope):
o Support the progression of zero-trust access patterns through Zscaler capabilities (e.g., private access and internet access patterns), ensuring smooth transitions for user cohorts and apps

• Operational excellence (SRE mindset)
o Supports the implementation and maintenance of high-quality tools and automation processes to support continuous delivery and developer productivity
o Build services that are secure, reliable, diagnosable, actively monitored, and reusable, with robust automation to support continuous delivery and developer productivity.
• Stakeholder management & service partnership
o Engage stakeholders regularly to understand requirements and translate them into outcomes-focused delivery plans (delivered in sprints / iterative delivery
o Operate as an SME in Remote Access engineering, contributing to group-level discussions and balancing short-term impact with long-term transformation

Essential Skills / Experience

• Core engineering management & delivery
• Proven experience being part of software/platform engineering teams using Agile delivery and modern SDLC practices.
• Strong operational discipline: metrics-driven improvement, release quality oversight, and reliable service ownership.
• Comfortable with engineering tooling and ways of working (e.g., JIRA/Confluence-style tracking and documentation).
• Creative problem solver with professionalism under pressure
• Remote Access domain knowledge (must-have for this role)
• Working knowledge of Citrix remote access / app & desktop delivery patterns and the operational realities of stability, performance, and lifecycle management.
• Working knowledge of Zscaler in a zero-trust access model, including how access pathways differ for web apps vs desktop apps.

Desirable Skills / Experience

• Experience improving service reliability through monitoring, automation, and measurable SLO/SLI-style thinking (SRE practices).
• Experience partnering with security/governance teams on secure access controls and compliance requirements.
• Exposure to identity/access modernisation challenges that impact remote access delivery.
• Familiarity with ITSM concepts and tooling (basic ServiceNow/CMDB/ITSM awareness is beneficial)
