About the role

This role ensures that the General General Director's strategic agenda is executed with excellence across every dimension: service delivery, commercial management, stakeholder relationships, and team capability. BT Finance & Procurement AI Ambition BT's ambition is to transform its Finance and Procurement functions into digitally-enabled, AI-powered partners for the business — running faster, more efficiently, and more safely by automating transactional work, strengthening controls, and turning data into decisions. This Specialist role is the operational engine behind that ambition, governed by four principles: Principle Relevance to This Role Native 1st, Fit for Purpose Champion SAP-native tooling in all commercial evaluations; scrutinise exceptions and ensure all third-party tool proposals are justified by value, risk, or feasibility. Human in the Loop Ensure AI-impacted service processes retain clear human oversight and approval governance; design review frameworks that keep people accountable at key decision points. Evidence-led Scaling Drive data-led service performance reviews; ensure that investment decisions are supported by measurable evidence before being scaled. Data Enables Outcomes Build structured service performance reporting using enterprise data; ensure dashboards and communications are grounded in accurate, real time SAP data. The Transformation Context: Reshape & Reinvent RESHAPE: Embedding AI into how this role manages its own work — from AI-assisted portfolio reporting and stakeholder communications, to Joule-powered insights from SAP Ariba and Procurement dashboards that accelerate decision-making without adding manual overhead. REINVENT: Co-designing new ways of working for the Finance and Procurement community — using Agentic AI to eliminate static, manual service management processes and replace them with adaptive, intelligent workflows that surface risks, actions, and opportunities automatically. This Specialist will not just observe this transformation — they will model it, shape it, and help the team and stakeholders navigate it with confidence. Why This Job Matters The Director of Finance Technology & Portfolio Delivery carries accountability for one of BT's most complex and commercially significant technology estates — spanning SAP Finance, Procurement (Ariba, Concur), AI tooling, and multiple vendor relationships. The ability to deliver against this agenda at pace depends on having a trusted, highly capable Specialist who can operate on the Director's behalf, manage the DRs' delivery cadence, and take accountability for the commercial and governance health of the estate. General General This is not a purely administrative role. It is a specialist delivery role that requires growing commercial acumen to support and make recommendations on financial decisions relating to the estate, PMO rigour to govern a complex portfolio of initiatives, and the communication skills to represent the Director credibly in stakeholder forums. The individual in this role will be actively groomed for broader financial and strategic decision-making — building the experience base to step into a Programme Management or Senior PMO role within BT Digital. SAP's AI innovations — Joule agents, AI-powered Ariba sourcing, BTP-integrated procurement analytics, and Agentic AI for source-to-pay — are delivering up to 30% productivity gains for procurement teams and reducing purchase requisition processing time by up to 60%. Managing this rapidly evolving estate with commercial intelligence and governance discipline is what makes this role both critical and high-impact

What you’ll be doing

 Director Support in Delivery and Operations

• Act as the Director's trusted operational partner — managing the day-to-day leadership agenda including preparation for key meetings, governance forums, stakeholder briefings, and leadership communications on behalf of the Director.
• Manage and coordinate the Director's Direct Reports' delivery cadence — tracking commitments, escalating blockers, ensuring accountability across the team, and synthesising progress into clear, exec-ready status updates.
• Prepare high-quality, insight-driven briefing packs, board updates, and decision papers for the Director — translating complex SAP delivery, commercial, and AI transformation topics into clear narratives that enable fast, confident decision-making.
• Lead the Finance Technology & Portfolio Delivery team's internal governance rhythm — owning the operating model for team meetings, OKR reviews, risk forums, and programme governance sessions.

 Service Delivery Partnership & Performance
• Plan and lead service partnership initiatives across the SAP and Procurement AI estate — building the operating framework through which BT Digital delivers value to Finance, Procurement, and business stakeholders.
• Develop and sustain long-term strategic relationships with key stakeholders across Group Finance, Procurement, Digital, and vendor partners — serving as a trusted, consistent point of contact.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance service delivery — working across Digital, Finance, Procurement, SAP AMS vendors, and AI product teams to identify and resolve friction points.
• Monitor and report on service performance metrics — owning the service dashboard for the SAP and Procurement estate, tracking SLA adherence, incident trends, change success rates, MTTR, and stakeholder satisfaction.

 Commercial Management & Financial Decision Support
• Assist the Director in budget planning and resource allocation across the SAP and Procurement AI estate — providing financially rigorous analysis, scenario modelling, and investment prioritisation inputs.
• Develop competence and progressively take accountability for financial decisions and commercial inputs on the estate — including licence management, vendor cost optimisation, new tool investment appraisals, and commercial terms review for SAP Ariba, Concur, and AI tooling
contracts.

Portfolio Governance & PMO
• Own the PMO framework for the Finance Technology & Portfolio Delivery team — establishing
standards for project governance, milestone tracking, dependency management, risk reporting,
and benefits realisation.
• Maintain a single source of truth for portfolio health — tracking all active initiatives, their status,
key milestones, resourcing, and financial performance in a format trusted by the Director and
senior stakeholders.
• Support the medium-term planning (MTP) cycle by consolidating portfolio inputs, coordinating
business case development across the team, and presenting a coherent investment picture to the
Director.

 New Service Development & AI Tool Management
• Support the development of new service offerings across the SAP and Procurement AI estate —
identifying opportunities to leverage SAP Joule agents, AI-powered Ariba, and BTP-integrated
analytics.
• Manage the AI tool estate for Finance and Procurement — maintaining an inventory of AI
capabilities in use, in pilot, and on the roadmap; tracking adoption, performance, and commercial
value.

Essential Skills / Experience

• Stakeholder management and communication excellence: Proven ability to build long-term
strategic relationships across Finance, Procurement, Technology, and vendor communities —
engaging at Director level with credibility, clarity, and commercial awareness.
• PMO and programme governance: Strong command of portfolio management frameworks,
governance standards, risk and dependency management, and benefits realisation.
• Commercial acumen and financial literacy: Ability to contribute meaningfully to budget planning, licence management, vendor commercial reviews, and investment appraisals — with the ambition to grow into full financial accountability for the estate.
• Service delivery management: Experience managing service performance in a technology context owning SLA reporting, running service review forums, managing risk registers, and driving continuous improvement.
• SAP and Procurement tool awareness: Sufficient knowledge of the SAP ecosystem — including SAP Ariba, Concur, and SAP AI/Joule capabilities — to engage credibly in commercial and governance conversations.
• Executive communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills — able to produce briefing packs, decision papers, and stakeholder updates that are clear, insightful, and exec ready.
• People leadership: Demonstrable experience supporting and developing a small team — setting direction, building capability, and holding team members accountable for outcomes

Desirable Skills / Experience

• Exposure to SAP Financial Management or Procurement processes — understanding how Finance and Procurement users interact with SAP tools in their day-to-day work.
• Experience with AI-assisted productivity tools — Microsoft 365 Copilot, SAP Joule, or equivalent — and the ability to model and promote their adoption within the team.
• Familiarity with ITIL service management principles — Incident, Problem, Change, and Service
Request management.
• Background in contract management or vendor governance — experience reviewing commercial terms, managing SLAs, and escalating vendor performance issues.
• Exposure to Agile/SAFe delivery frameworks — understanding of iterative delivery methods and how they integrate with governance and PMO processes.
• Experience in a Chief of Staff, Deputy, or Senior PMO Specialist role in a technology or Digital
function.
