About the role

  • Drives efficient and profitable growth for BT business through the provision of commercial recommendations related to specific bids for Global clients, positively influencing win rates and directly impacting BT’s drive for profitable growth on complex deals.
  • Develops and champions effective commercials for high value, non-standard and complex bids, ensuring the best outcome for BT business while aligning with customer requirements.
  • Recognised as a trusted advisor to senior management and subject matter expert, providing strategic commercial direction to balance risk with reward across bids.
  • Provides strong financial leadership, influencing the bid support function to drive quality, accuracy, and consistency in bid responses, including T&Cs and optimisation.
  • Additionally, plays a key leadership role in building, developing, and managing a high-performing Budapest-based Commercial Finance team, ensuring capability, consistency, and alignment with global standards.

What you’ll be doing

  • Accountable for the commercials of priority high value, non-standard and complex bids, managing overall commercial risk and ensuring robust financial outcomes.
  • Influences deal strategy as a trusted commercial advisor, identifying, quantifying, and managing financial risk while recommending win price and commercial positioning based on market and competitor insights.
  • Leads or supports contract negotiations for highly complex bids, acting as the commercial point of contact and playing a key role in customer negotiations, particularly on financial terms and conditions.
  • Owns the development of bid P&L and cash flow models, ensuring innovative modelling approaches that optimise profitability and mitigate risk.
  • Provides recommendations for Finance DOA sign-off and presents clearly to senior stakeholders.
  • Drives benchmarking, cost optimisation, and continuous improvement across bids and the broader Commercial Finance function.
  • Leads capability extension and best practice within the Bid team, enhancing commercial awareness and behaviours across the organisation.
  • Line management and leadership of the Budapest-based Commercial Finance team, including performance management and development, building capability, driving a high-performance culture, and ensuring consistent ways of working aligned with global standards. Acting as a key interface between the Budapest team and senior stakeholders, while managing resource prioritisation and supporting change and continuous improvement initiatives.

What you’ll need to succeed (Skills & Experience)

  • Significant experience managing and negotiating high value, highly complex bids within a large, matrix organisation.
  • Strong experience in deal pricing, financial modelling, and commercial negotiations, with a comprehensive understanding of managing commercial risk.
  • Telecommunications industry knowledge and strong commercial acumen.
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders and act as a trusted advisor in complex decision-making environments.
  • People leadership experience, including leading and developing teams and managing performance, capacity, and stakeholder alignment across global teams.
  • Recognised accounting qualification (e.g. ICAEW, CIMA, ACCA) preferred.
