Security isn’t always the first thing that comes to mind when you think of BT, but when it comes to keeping everyone safely connected, We Are The Protectors. We deal with thousands of cyber-attacks every day, so that millions of people can safely go about their daily lives and run their businesses. We deliver vital work at scale, with real breadth and impact. We connect for good.

This is an opportunity to play your part and protect our company, our customers and our communities from cyberattack. Be part of a dedicated team and get ready to be challenged every day to make the most of your skills and experience. You’ll learn from those around you, and from outstanding training and development resources to become even better at what you do. With the best technology at your fingertips, you'll be part of a friendly and flexible working environment where your contribution is always valued.

Job Description

About this role

As a Security Specialist, you'll be part of a wider team delivering critical security solutions for our banking customers. Working closely with customers daily, you'll translate business and technical requirements into high-quality designs and successful implementations, while remaining mindful of security strategy, governance, risk, and compliance objectives.

You'll combine strong technical expertise with excellent stakeholder engagement skills, helping customers navigate complex security challenges and delivering solutions that protect their most critical assets.
There's nothing quite like seeing a world-class security design come together—from initial concept through to implementation—before successfully handing over to our Delivery and Operational teams.

What you'll be doing

• Provide technical security leadership and oversight across a strategic banking customer contract, ensuring services and solutions remain aligned to contractual security obligations, governance requirements, and customer security strategy.
• Act as the security design and implementation authority for complex security solutions and platform architectures. Lead customer workshops to capture business and technical requirements, translate these into robust security designs, and identify the supporting documentation required to underpin successful delivery.
• Produce and maintain High-Level Designs (HLDs), Low-Level Designs (LLDs), security processes, operational procedures, standards, and local work instructions, ensuring alignment to industry best practices, regulatory requirements, and customer security controls.
• Establish a strong onsite presence with the customer, building trusted relationships with technical, operational, and leadership stakeholders while providing expert security guidance and technical leadership.
• Work closely with customers to understand their threat landscape, risk profile, regulatory obligations, and strategic objectives, ensuring security solutions address both current and emerging challenges.

The skills you will need

• Have excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with customer technical teams, senior leadership, project managers, risk and compliance functions, and third-party suppliers.
• Have experience delivering large-scale, complex, and technically challenging security or infrastructure projects, taking ownership from requirements gathering through to design, implementation, and operational handover.
• Have experience designing and implementing security solutions across cloud and hybrid infrastructure environments, with an understanding of modern security architectures and cloud security principles.
• Possess strong technical expertise across a broad range of security and networking technologies, with hands-on experience and working knowledge of some of the following:
o Palo Alto Networks Firewalls and Security Platforms
o Cisco Firepower Threat Defence (FTD)
o Juniper SRX Security Gateways
o Enterprise IP Networking and Routing Technologies
o Network Segmentation and Security Architecture

Benefits

• 25 days annual leave (not including bank holidays), increasing with service
• Equal family leave: receive 18 weeks at full pay, 8 weeks at half pay and 26 weeks at the statutory rate. It’s for all parents, no matter how your family is made up.
• Enhanced women’s health support: including help with menopause symptoms, cancer screenings, period care and more.
• 24/7 private virtual GP appointments for UK colleagues
• 2 weeks paid carer’s leave
• World-class training and development opportunities
• Option to join BT Shares Saving schemes

In today’s world, safe and secure digital connections have never been more vital. You’ll be joining a global company operating at the forefront of the information age: BT employs 90,000 people in 180 countries. With huge scale, we’re capable of achieving great things, striving to be personal, simple, and brilliant for our customers whilst creating an inclusive working environment where people from all backgrounds can succeed. Play your part. Make a difference. We are the Protectors.

A FEW POINTS TO NOTE:

Although these roles are listed as full-time, if you’re a job share partnership, work reduced hours, or any other way of working flexibly, please still get in touch.

We will also offer reasonable adjustments for the selection process if required, so please do not hesitate to inform us.

DON'T MEET EVERY SINGLE REQUIREMENT?

Studies have shown that women and people who are disabled, LGBTQ+, neurodiverse or from ethnic minority backgrounds are less likely to apply for jobs unless they meet every single qualification and criteria. We're committed to building a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace where everyone can be their best, so if you're excited about this role but your past experience doesn't align perfectly with every requirement on the Job Description, please apply anyway - you may just be the right candidate for this or other roles in our wider team.
