About the role
The Organisation Design Specialist plays a key role in enhancing organisational effectiveness and ways of working, taking accountability for leading organisation design activity across broader change initiatives and operating model transformations from end to end. Working closely with People & Culture Partners, Directors, and Senior Leaders, you will support the delivery of transformation programmes that drive efficiency and improved performance. You will also collaborate with senior organisation design specialists on larger, more complex projects, ensuring a cohesive and aligned approach across initiatives.
In addition, you will contribute to sharing best practice and learning across the wider People & Culture community, including peers within the Design and Delivery Hub, to ensure consistent execution of transformation activity. Acting as an advocate for strong organisation design, team effectiveness, and change management, you will focus on improving both colleague experience and business outcomes. The role also includes oversight of organisation and job architecture, including role sizing, governance, and assurance, and sits within the Strategic Workforce Planning team as part of the Work, Reward, and Employee Relations Centre of Excellence.
What you’ll be doing
- Accountable for owning and delivering organisation design projects as part of the BT operating model
- Support senior stakeholders and P&C Partners through Operating Model Transformations by facilitating current state operating model assessments, definition and design of target operating models, and contributing to transformation roadmaps including organisational structures, ways of working, governance and decision-making, skills and capabilities, etc.
- Provide organisation design and effectiveness expertise and coaching to senior stakeholders and P&C stakeholders, including interventions to address organisational, team or leadership opportunities.
- Lead regular/ ad hoc activities to review BT’s OD best practice and introduce industry standards.
- Apply specialist knowledge and industry insights to provide advice, interpretation and guidance on organisation design practices and processes.
- Work collaboratively, adapt and flex your style for different audiences to deliver results in a global, matrixed organisation.
Essential Skills / Experience
- Organisation and process design: Develops and facilitates the implementation of organisational design and key workflows to ensure effectiveness and alignment with business strategy.
- Organisation Diagnostic and Analysis: Analyses and diagnoses organisational structures, processes, capabilities, and external context to identify inefficiency and opportunities for improved performance.
- Operating model Design: Designs how best to organise a company and its resources to effectively deliver the organisation's strategy.
- Stakeholder Management and Business Partnering: Build trusted, productive relationships with stakeholders by understanding their context and providing advice that supports strong performance.
Desirable Skills / Experience
- Systems thinking: sees complex entities as a series of components with each part interacting with and influencing the rest when solving problems.
- Storytelling / Influencing: Communicates information, tailored to a specific audience, with a compelling narrative, changing or affecting the opinions of other people.
- Change Management: Understand the motivators for change and develop key communications to drive adoption and engage impacted colleagues in designs.
- Commercial Acumen: Possesses knowledge of critical business concepts relevant to the business unit and demonstrates the ability to use deep business knowledge to inform decision-making.
- Data Analysis / Decision Making: Against a backdrop of competing requirements, uses data insights to make difficult trade-offs and make clear, reasoned recommendations on priorities
- Job Analysis & Sizing: research roles and jobs to focus on classification systems within that field
- Owning outcomes: Making the right decisions that benefit the broader organisation.
- Growth mindset: Experiment and identify opportunities for growth for both yourself and the organisation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills: translate technical language and data analysis for the benefit of business and People & Culture stakeholders.
- Management or internal consulting experience: direct experience within management or in an internal consultant role preferred but not mandatory.
- HR domain experience: direct experience within HR preferred but not mandatory.
