Why this job matters
You will be responsible for integration, commissioning and technical support of IP links from customer site-based routers, switches and devices back into BT OnePhone’s Core Network, daily operations of BT OnePhone’s IP core.
Participate in IP Network planning and optimisation based on the output of network health reports. Designing and implementation of configurations both within BTOP and customer network nodes, producing detailed documentation for IP solutions as deployed.
Role holder will participate in high level technical activities, data configurations, change requests, troubleshooting, reporting, monitor daily tasks and direct other team members to gain the best performance.
Provide support to forecasting & traffic planning. Implement all configurations using primarily Cisco and Juniper based solutions.
What you’ll be doing
- To collaborate with both BT & BTOP staff, vendors and third parties to evaluate and recommend network design, hardware, and technology as part of a continuing refresh cycle.
- To multi-task between projects and providing customer facing support for all BTOP provided converged communication services
- Plan and implement capacity upgrades for BTOP supported network infrastructure.
- Perform all aspects of technical deployment projects, which include developing implementation plans, methods of procedure (MOP’s), and execution of work.
- Monitor performance, capacity, and availability of the network on an ongoing basis.
- Participate in on-call rotation for escalation support of technical issues, supporting the 24x7 production network environment.
- Recommend improvements, improve resiliency, and optimise network.
- Secure network systems by establishing and enforcing policies and defining and monitoring access.
- Support and administer firewall/network environments in line with BT Group policy.
- Routine upgrade data network equipment to the latest stable and secure firmware releases
- Provide remote support to on-site engineers and end users/customers during installation.
- Work in fast paced dynamic environment and under pressure.
- Collaborate closely with customers to define technical solutions, installation/integration and support of products and solutions in the BTOP infrastructure for customers.
- Supporting Value Added Services (VAS) function to introduce new services related to Core Network through designing and integrating the VAS services into the system, to satisfy customer needs and increase BTOP’s profitability.
Skills and Experience
- Passionate about delivering outstanding Customer Service with the ability to handle complex customer complaints /issues should they arise.
- Demonstrable experience of managing projects within a telecom’s environment.
- Great attention to detail.
- Good level of IT literacy across the Microsoft office suite of packages.
- Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
- Confident presenter with experience of presenting to large groups.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Possess confidence in challenging ideas in a non-confrontational manner.
- Decisive in decision making having made sound and well thought through judgements.
- Deep level of knowledge in computer networking (e.g. TCP/IP, IPv4, IPv6, DNS, DHCP, BGP, Layer2/3, VLANs, IPSEC, VPN)
- Cisco (CCIE, CCNA, CCNP, CCDA, CCDP) or Juniper (JNCIA, JNCIS, JNCIP, JNCIE) qualifications desirable.
- Experience with working on Site 2 Site IPSEC VPNs
- Working with zone-based firewalls and understanding policies
