About the role

The purpose of this role is to lead a team of Network Design Engineers on design and test activities within BT International.
The purpose of the Network Design Manager role is to provide technical oversight and leadership for BT International network platforms and/or customer solutions. Specifically, this role is accountable for:
• Leading and developing the team though coaching, feedback and performance conversations and managing team performance
• Driving efficiency and scalability through the re-use of IP Internet/VPN network designs and ongoing in-life operation of designs across the overall BT International network platforms and/or customer solution.
• Team Lead of a team of technical good/contractors to deliver network design solutions and provide technical thought leadership to a larger matrix team.
• Acting as a technical ambassador for the company and providing good technical consulting to customers at a platform and/or overall solution level.
• Providing steer on design scope and network design of the overall BT International network platforms and/or customer solution.

What you’ll be doing

The purpose of the Network Design Manager role is to lead the design of IP Internet/VPN technologies. Specifically, this role is accountable for:
• Leading and developing people, providing regular coaching, feedback, and performance conversations in line with BT’s leadership standards and behaviors.
• Role modelling the Connected Leaders behaviors, including leading inclusively & safely, supporting team development, and building a positive culture based on BT values (Personal, Simple, Brilliant).
• Running effective 1:1s, check ins and performance reviews, ensuring every colleague understands expectations, goals and development opportunities.
• Managing team performance, identifying strengths, development needs, addressing underperformance early, and ensuring fairness and consistency.
• Owning succession planning and career development, supporting colleagues to build skills, grow, and prepare for future roles.
• Driving team engagement, celebrating wins, recognising contributions and creating a connected, collaborative, supportive culture.
• Leading change and communication, helping the team understand priorities, behaviors, and business updates.
• Overall Network Design accountability for new features into BT International’s network platforms.
• Stakeholder Management, technical expertise to senior stakeholders, internal and external.
• Drive transformation within team and the wider organisation

Essential Skills / Experience

• Skilled in delivering brilliant 1:1s, goal setting and performance conversations
• Ability to coach and feedback open and honestly with your team
• Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills
• Ability to manage performance and hold fairness driven calibration discussions
• Skill in handling change, hiring, onboarding and ongoing talent development
• Ability to navigate complex processes, policies
• Excellent communication skills
• Commercial awareness
• Strong coordination and problem solving abilities
• Specialist knowledge of IP/VPN technologies and vendors
• Specialist knowledge of relevant emerging network/software technologies.
• Experience of leading teams to deliver network designs and testing.
• Understanding of Network Fundamentals (Switching and Routing Protocols (Preferred: ISIS and BGP)
• Cisco Platform awareness (57C3, NCS5K, C1100, )

Typical Certifications/Accreditations Attained or working towards include:

Member of a professional body e.g. Institution of Engineering and Technology

• Ability to lead / coach teams to change and develop an innovative, challenging, and supportive team culture.
