About the role
This role is critical to protecting BT’s customers, platforms, information and reputation by ensuring security risks are identified, governed and remediated across Core Platforms – Migrations. The IT Security Lead supports secure delivery, operational resilience and regulatory alignment by embedding security into change, migration and service delivery activity from design through to live operation.
What you’ll be doing
- Assess the current security landscape across legacy and migrating platforms, identifying opportunities to strengthen security controls and reduce risk.
- Review current security posture, identify vulnerabilities and control gaps, and drive remediation through prioritised improvement plans.
- Partner with engineering, architecture and delivery teams to embed security-by-design into platform change and transformation initiatives.
- Provide clear reporting, insights and recommendations on security risks and priorities to support effective decision-making.
- Champion continuous improvement in security governance, resilience and ways of working, ensuring compliance with security standards and audit requirements.
Essential Skills / Experience
- Security Engineering & Technical Risk Management
Ability to identify security risks and vulnerabilities, prioritise remediation, and work with engineering teams to strengthen platform security. - Stakeholder Influence & Business Case Development
Strong influencing skills with the ability to communicate risk, build business cases, and secure stakeholder support for security initiatives. - Security-by-Design in Complex Platform Environments
Experience embedding security into platform change, migration, and transformation programmes while driving practical security improvements
Desirable Skills / Experience
- Enterprise Platform & Migration Experience
Experience working within large-scale platform migrations, transformation programmes, or complex enterprise technology environments. - Cloud & Modern Infrastructure Security
Knowledge of cloud security principles, infrastructure security controls, and securing hybrid technology environments. - Vulnerability & Patch Management
Experience overseeing vulnerability remediation, patch governance, secure configuration, and risk prioritisation across multiple technology stacks. - Security Governance & Assurance
Understanding of security policies, control frameworks, audit activities, and compliance requirements within regulated environments. - Architecture & Security-by-Design Principles
Ability to contribute to solution design reviews and embed security considerations into engineering and architecture decisions. - Telecommunications or Critical National Infrastructure Experience
Experience working in telecoms, network services, or highly resilient operational environments where security and availability are critical. - Security Certifications
Professional qualifications such as CISSP, CISM, Security+, ISO27001, CCSK or equivalent experience. - Incident & Problem Management Exposure
Experience supporting security incidents, root cause analysis, operational resilience activities, and post-incident improvement programmes.
