Why this job matters
The key purpose of this role is to provide the overall BT OnePhone team with IT services and support. Investigating and diagnosing office & remote staff IT & network problems, collecting IT usage stats, making recommendations for improving the company's IT systems and carrying out routine configuration and installation of IT solutions. One day will never be the same and you will have a variety of opportunities for learning and development.
What you’ll be doing
- Providing end user support to colleagues at all levels of the BT OnePhone business, in addition to setting up new users, managing LAN/VPN and maintaining the companies wired and wireless access systems as required.
- Identification of problem resolution, owning resolution and implementation to improve the company's IT systems.
- Carrying out routine configuration, installation, and maintenance of IT server infrastructure.
- Proactive management of resource to maximise network stability and resilience, takes own initiative for the rapid recovery from any errors/issues that arise. Proactively works with colleagues on the implementation of agreed changes in a planned manner to minimise service risks.
Skills and Experience
Working knowledge of administrating Microsoft windows domains including Active Directory, Group Policy, Hybrid Exchange, Windows Server 2016 to 2022, Office 365 and DNS.
- Ability to work on own initiative, taking ownership of issues and seeing through to resolution.
- Ability to manage own workload and adapt to shifting priorities.
- Linux administration skills (Debian/Red Hat): Postfix, Squid, Open VPN, BIND, Puppet and MySQL.
- Virtualisation Technologies (VMware)
- Familiarity with Security Applications; their implementation and best practice.
Experience you’d be expected to have
- Good overall IT knowledge and comprehension
- In-depth LAN and IP Knowledge
- Comprehension and understanding of the Microsoft Office suite of programs, Windows maintenance, and patching experience.
- Knowledge of informational technology disciplines, e.g., software applications and interfaces, production operations, quality assurance and systems management, etc.
- Knowledge of project management process and systems, ITIL/ITSM.
- Comprehension and understanding of the Microsoft Office suite of programs, Windows maintenance, and patching experience.
- Understanding of routing and switching.
- Experience of administering Linux systems.
- Experience of managing virtual machines in a production environment; including resource allocation, migration, and optimisation.
