The IT Services Procurement Professional supports the effective procurement and commercial management of IT services across BT. The role works with procurement colleagues, technology teams, finance, legal, security, risk and operational stakeholders to translate business requirements into sourcing activity, supplier agreements and measurable commercial outcomes.
As a Career Level E professional, the role operates within established procurement strategies, policies and governance frameworks while taking ownership of defined sourcing projects, supplier activities, commercial analyses and contract-management deliverables. The role requires sound professional judgement, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities in a complex technology and supplier environment.

What you’ll be doing
Sourcing and procurement delivery
Manage assigned sourcing activities from initial requirement through supplier selection, negotiation, recommendation and contract award, working within BT’s procurement governance and delegated authority.
Support Procurement Managers and Category Leads in executing category strategies for IT services.
Work with operational stakeholders to understand demand, challenge requirements constructively and develop clear sourcing specifications.
Help define sourcing strategies that consider the supply market, delivery model, commercial structure, competition, risk and required business outcomes.
Prepare and issue procurement documentation such as Requests for Information, Requests for Proposal, pricing schedules and supplier response templates.
Coordinate bidder communications, clarification questions, evaluation activity and sourcing timetables.
Help establish objective supplier-evaluation criteria covering commercial, technical, operational, security, sustainability and risk requirements.
Maintain accurate evaluation records and produce clear, evidence-based supplier recommendations.
Ensure that purchasing activity is directed to the appropriate procurement category, contract route and ordering channel.
Commercial analysis and negotiation
Analyse supplier proposals, pricing models and commercial assumptions to determine total cost, comparative value and areas of commercial risk.
Develop bid-comparison models that allow stakeholders to assess suppliers on a consistent and transparent basis.
Support or lead negotiations appropriate to the scale and complexity of the assignment.
Negotiate areas such as cost/rates, resource profiles, volume assumptions, productivity commitments, service levels, payment terms, benchmarking provisions and contractual protections.
Examine different IT services pricing models, which may include time and materials, fixed price, milestone-based, output-based, capacity-based or managed-service arrangements.
Test supplier assumptions and identify potential cost exposure arising from demand changes, indexation, minimum commitments, change requests, subcontracting or unclear scope.
Prepare concise commercial summaries and recommendations for decision-makers.
Escalate any significant commercial, contractual or supplier concerns promptly to the appropriate Procurement Manager or Category Lead.
Contracting and purchase documentation
Work with Legal, Data Privacy, Security, Finance, Tax, Risk and operational specialists to obtain the reviews and approvals required for each procurement, wherever applicable.
Support the resolution of supplier mark-ups and maintain a clear record of agreed contractual positions.
Maintain contract records and procurement documentation in the approved repositories and systems.
Support contract extensions, renewals, variations, change requests and termination or transition activity.
Monitor key commercial dates and flag upcoming expiries, notice periods or dependencies.
Supplier performance and governance
Support the onboarding and governance of IT services suppliers.
Develop effective working relationships with supplier commercial, account and delivery teams.
Participate in supplier reviews and prepare information on service, commercial, contractual and risk performance.
Contribute to supplier relationship plans for strategically important or operationally critical suppliers.
Stakeholder engagement
Build trusted working relationships with stakeholders across Procurement, Technology, Digital, Finance, Legal, Security, Risk and business operations.
Act as a professional point of contact for assigned procurement requests.
Set realistic expectations regarding procurement requirements, dependencies, approvals and decision points.
Provide timely updates on progress, risks, actions and upcoming milestones.
Escalate blockers while retaining ownership of actions within the role’s remit.

Risk, compliance and responsible sourcing
Follow BT procurement policies, controls, approval requirements and applicable laws and regulations.
Ensure that procurement records provide a complete and auditable account of the sourcing and contracting process.

Essential procurement and commercial skills
Experience of procurement, commercial management, sourcing, contract management or supplier management in a corporate environment.
Working knowledge of an end-to-end procurement process, from requirements definition and market engagement through evaluation, negotiation, contracting and supplier management.
Good commercial awareness, including the ability to analyse pricing, supplier proposals, contractual commitments and cost drivers.
Experience supporting or leading supplier negotiations.
Ability to prepare clear comparison models, commercial recommendations and decision materials.
Sound understanding of contractual fundamentals, including scope, charges, service levels, acceptance, change control, liability, governance and exit.
Ability to maintain accurate, complete and audit-ready procurement records.
Understanding of competitive sourcing, ethical procurement and conflicts-of-interest principles.

Qualifications and experience
Relevant professional experience in procurement, supply chain, commercial management, contract management, finance, technology or a related discipline.
A degree or equivalent practical experience is desirable.
A procurement qualification, such as CIPS, or active progress towards one is advantageous.
Experience working with global suppliers or cross-border stakeholders is advantageous.
Exposure to IT services contracts, Statements of Work or managed-service arrangements is desirable.
