Why this job matters

BT is currently transforming the way it manages and stores data by moving from its existing on-premises platform to Google Cloud. As part of this role, you will be contributing to the engineering effort that will deliver this large-scale transformation. You shall manage defining the standards and processes to allow delivery teams to be effective when deploying their solutions to Google Cloud.

The ARCAM squad manages our analytics application space within GCP using Argo CI/CD & Kubernetes. The squad is key for managing business workloads for a multitude of use-cases within the business. In the role you will be expected to have a deep technical understanding of GCP and Kubernetes, alongside key cloud concepts and tooling such as Terraform and Helm Charts.

What you’ll be doing

  • Identifies opportunities to improve standards of practice within a project, continuously enhancing ways of working.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve standards of practice with own work and peers’ outputs to contribute to identify and flag errors or potential issues.
  • Delivers resolutions to problems that tend to be complex, cross-domain or of high impact to customers.
  • Develops working relationships and communicates with a range of project stakeholders across teams to ensure actions completed, progress updated and impacts on other components managed.
  • Creates and implements technical solutions for a domain or cross domains / portfolios of work within a specific technology area autonomously, understanding how solutions impact systems internally and/or externally and assessing impact of change.

The skills you’ll need to succeed

Functional Knowledge & Technical Skills

• Understanding of metadata management, data classification, and data lineage principles.
• Familiarity with data governance tools (Ab Initio, One Trust) for metadata management.
• Familiarity with AI model lifecycle management and governance tooling.
• Experience in tracking and reporting on AI & metadata compliance metrics and risk assessments.
• Basic Knowledge of AI & metadata regulations (GDPR, AI Act, DORA) and ethical AI principles.
• Experience working with structured and unstructured data, ensuring proper documentation and classification.

Business Expertise

• Awareness of data governance frameworks and their impact on business processes and risk management.
• Awareness of AI risks and governance challenges in enterprise environments.
• Awareness of AI & metadata governance policies and control requirements.
• Strong proficiency in Excel, Power BI, or SQL for metadata reporting and compliance tracking.

Leadership & Interpersonal Skills

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively across Data Governance, AI teams, Compliance, Legal, and Business Units.
• Good communication skills.
