About the role

This is a rare opportunity to shape the networks that power BT Group’s broadband services across the UK. As a senior technical leader in our ISP Network Design organisation, you’ll shape next generation capabilities that enhance and enable the broadband experience for millions of customers across EE, BT and Plusnet. Building on the foundations of BT Group’s unparalleled network, you’ll collaborate with colleagues across our Networks division to grow and extend our network leadership, ensuring we continue to deliver brilliant, customer first connectivity.

This role is a member of the ISP network design team, with responsibility for end-to-end design, optimisation and performance across our Consumer and Business brands – EE, BT, Plusnet and Broadband One. Working alongside domain specialists and in collaboration with senior colleagues from across Networks, it holds design ownership of end-to-end broadband networks, centred on ISP platforms and considering impact across peering, core, access and in-home networks. It ensures that solutions across all networks are optimised to provide the best network experience for customers at optimal cost, and is evidenced by independent benchmarking, internal metrics, budgets and cost reduction targets.

What you’ll be doing

• Accountable for end-to-end design, build, testing, validation of end-to end network solutions.
• Provides expert direction and strategy on end-to-end broadband network solution, including in-home, access network, core network, ISP services and internet connectivity. Ensures teams remain connected and designs put the customer first to deliver the best broadband network.
• Leads investigations into issues impacting end-to-end performance, drawing upon expertise of multiple subject matter experts from across Networks/BT.
• Interrogates complex data to optimise designs and address performance issues. Uses a variety of approaches to communicate complex technical information and data to diverse stakeholders so that they can make business decisions based upon it.
• Directs a network engineering team across broadband and related products and applications, throughout a project lifecycle including functionality, cost, delivery schedule, support readiness and relationships.
• Champions, continuously develops and shares with team knowledge on emerging trends and changes in Network Engineering.
• Leads the scoping of a technical deliverables through to enablement of benefits realisation for the customer across multiple, large and/or complex immature solutions and develops the technical delivery plan, engaging with stakeholders in Consumer, Business, Networks and Digital to agree and align requirements.
• Leads the delivery of recommendations and supporting details of formal project proposals for network connectivity and configurations.
• Provides ongoing management of the technical delivery portfolio, managing complex incidents, pre-empting issues and risks and coordinating the resolution to ensure all requirements are met and delivery is on track.
• Develop close and effective relationships with customers/partners, suppliers and colleagues at a senior level up to CxO, and be able to confidently present information, facilitate negotiations, and provide thought leadership to them.

Essential Skills / Experience

• Proven ability to bring people together to collaborate in development of optimized engineering solutions.
• Comprehensive understanding of all aspects of broadband networks.
• Ability to take data-driven approach to solving complex and unfamiliar technical problems.

Desirable Skills / Experience

• Significant experience in managing agile product development.
• Excellent commercial awareness, including budgeting, demand management, vendor management and negotiation.
• Proven ability to build strong working relationships with stakeholders inside and outside the team up to CxO level, including those in senior roles and those with different priorities from your own.
