About the role

The Data team in Networks helps BT make better decisions. At BT, we know there is huge potential in the vast amount of data available to us and we are looking for talented, innovative and collaborative people to realise that potential safely and radically. The data products we deliver are used across all CFUs. They are central to the live monitoring of our networks, guide the development of the services and products we provide, and improve the day to day experience our customers, specialising in improving their service.

This role is pivotal in shaping our data landscape for the future, you’ll be hands on, capable for creating, building innovative data products, turning the most complex business needs into solutions using the latest technologies in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence helpinging Networks Data Strategy.
You’ll work closely with our data engineers, and work alongside the leadership team including Senior Engineering managers, Product Owner and Architect.

Data underpins everything we do in Networks, and this critical role underpins our ability to use our data effectively where you will proactively identify opportunities for improvement and build robust scalable tools to empower decision-making at all levels of the company.

What you’ll be doing

• Utilises machine learning / AI algorithms to run models on network investments and conduct proactive maintenance.
• Generates business insights based on big data, identification of impactful recommendations, and communication of findings to key stakeholders across the BT group.
• Extracts and grows understanding of data to form an opinion on how to best help stakeholders derive relevant insights.
• Develops insightful visualisations to make sophisticated analyses accessible to a broad audience.
• Helps the delivery of multiple data science projects with diverse multi-functional partners.
• Assists in the implementation of ways to improve working processes within the Data Science & AI team.
• Uses exploratory analysis methodologies to identify patterns and trends to use with the right data-driven methods (clustering, PCA, regression, significance testing).
• Delivers the acquisition, processing, integration, and cleaning of data from multiple sources.
• Undertakes data investigation and data analysis to identify trends in data.
• Develops advanced analytics products in SQL, Python or any other tools as part of audits that provide workable business insight to key stakeholders.
• Leverages automation to maximise efficiency in reproducible data collection, data analytics and other standards for consistency and reusability.
• Collaborates with internal clients (data science and product teams) and applies professional technical expertise to drive solutions and point of contact discussions.
• Keen interest in Machine Learning & a willingness to learn new techniques & develop skills further.

Essential Skills / Experience

• ML & AI: Applies knowledge of AI and ML from a data perspective and knows potential data applications to improve overall business outcomes, including in depth knowledge of LLMs and Agentic AI. (Tech stack (AWS/GCP & Hadoop), spark, python, SQL, cloud native services).
• Kubernetes: An understanding of running ML pipelines in Kubernetes. Exposure to Kubeflow.
• Statistical Analysis: Uses methodical models to quantify relationships between data points and make predictions.
• Data Management: Understanding of data governance, data quality, and data privacy standards.
• Data Modelling: Ability to create and implement effective data models to help business processes.
• Storytelling with data: skills in building the case for change, drawing on data and methodical techniques where appropriate, and informing this to business audiences
• Data Cleansing: ensures data quality checks are built into analytics process to assure clean data.
• Dashboards: Strong experience in Dashboard build inc. Qlik, Apache Superset

• Experience in Graph Analytics
• Experience in LLM's & Agents
