Job Description

Hybrid 3 days a week together out of our London, Birmingham, Bristol, Ipswitch or Belfast offices (flexible 2 days remote wherever).

About the role

Data is at the heart of everything we do across BT Networks. From keeping millions of customers connected to improving how we operate one of the UK's largest and most complex networks, data and AI play a critical role in shaping better decisions and better customer experiences.

We're looking for a Data Science & AI Specialist to help unlock the value of our extensive data assets and turn complex challenges into innovative, scalable solutions. You'll work on high-impact initiatives that influence how BT monitors its networks, develops products and services, and delivers outstanding experiences to customers.

This is a hands-on role where you'll design, develop and deploy advanced data science, machine learning and AI solutions. Working alongside data engineers, architects, product owners and senior business stakeholders, you'll help shape the future of data and AI across BT Networks while delivering measurable business value.

You'll join a collaborative team that embraces innovation, experimentation and continuous learning, giving you the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies and make a meaningful impact at scale.

What you’ll be doing

  • Designing and developing advanced data science, machine learning and AI solutions to address complex business challenges.
  • Extracting, analysing and interpreting large and complex datasets to generate actionable insights.
  • Building, testing and deploying predictive models, machine learning solutions and AI capabilities.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve network performance, customer experience and operational efficiency through data-driven solutions.
  • Developing custom algorithms and analytical models to support strategic and operational decision-making.
  • Collaborating with Data Engineers to integrate models and AI solutions into production data platforms and pipelines.
  • Presenting insights, recommendations and outcomes to both technical and non-technical stakeholders using clear visualisations and compelling storytelling.
  • Helping drive innovation by evaluating emerging technologies, methodologies and industry trends within Data Science, Machine Learning and AI.
  • Contributing to the development of BT Networks' longer-term Data and AI capabilities and strategy.

Essential Skills / Experience

  • Enterprise level experience applying Data Science, Machine Learning and AI techniques to solve real business problems and deliver measurable outcomes.
  • Commercial experience using Python and SQL, including working with large and complex datasets to perform advanced analysis and modelling.
  • Demonstratable background in communicating complex analytical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences, translating data into clear business insights and recommendations.

Desirable Skills / Experience

  • Experience with Generative AI and Large Language Models (LLMs).
  • Experience developing and deploying machine learning models within enterprise environments.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Knowledge of MLOps practices and machine learning lifecycle management.
  • Strong understanding of statistical modelling and advanced analytical techniques.
  • Experience developing data products and data-driven solutions.
  • Telecommunications, networking or technology industry experience.
  • Knowledge of broadband, Wi-Fi, voice, TV services or network performance analytics.
  • Experience influencing stakeholders and driving adoption of data-led decision-making.
  • Familiarity with modern AI frameworks, tools and emerging industry trends.
