Job Description

About the role

BT is entering a new phase of growth, moving from building infrastructure to unlocking value from it. As new products emerge across connectivity, data, platforms and AI, the ability to take innovation to market and scale it effectively is critical. This role sits at the centre of that challenge.

This role sits within the Active Intelligence unit in Data and Developer Solutions, part of Etc., BT’s internal innovation organisation. Its purpose is to design, build and scale data products that use anonymised and aggregated mobile network data to solve real‑world customer problems.

As a Data Product Manager, you will lead the discovery, development and delivery of individual data product initiatives. Your initial focus will be the transport sector, with scope to extend into additional sectors and verticals over time.

You will define the next frontier of mobile network data for transport, evolving from retrospective insights into real‑time intelligence, predictive insight and AI‑powered forecasting. You will challenge traditional transport data models, identify new value across the portfolio and lead the product bets that position BT Active Intelligence as a market leader.

You will manage the full product lifecycle end to end: from discovery and development through launch, performance measurement, continuous optimisation and, where appropriate, decommissioning. Your accountability is to deliver commercially viable, data‑driven transport products that create measurable customer and business impact

What you’ll be doing

Product ownership and delivery

  • Own one or more new data product initiatives from discovery through to launch and early scale, ensuring clear outcomes and high delivery quality.
  • Translate product vision into clear product goals, roadmaps and backlogs.
  • Lead product discovery and experimentation, working closely with users, customers and stakeholders to validate problems, assumptions and value.
  • Define and prioritise product requirements, ensuring alignment between customer needs, technical feasibility and business value.
  • Oversee delivery using Agile / lean product practices, working closely with engineering, UX, data and design colleagues to deliver iteratively.

Customer, data and insight-driven decision making

  • Use customer research, data and insight to inform prioritisation and product decisions.
  • Ensure appropriate insight and measurement is in place to track adoption, performance and outcomes.
  • Monitor live products post‑launch, feeding learning back into discovery and iteration to drive engagement and growth.

Commercial and value focus

  • Support the development of value cases and business rationale for new product initiatives.
  • Track and report on product performance against agreed success measures.
  • Identify risks, dependencies and trade-offs early, escalating where appropriate with clear options and recommendations.

Stakeholder and team collaboration

  • Work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders across product, service design, engineering, data science, UX, commercial and operations.
  • Communicate progress, insights and risks clearly and concisely, maintaining alignment and momentum.
  • Contribute to a strong, collaborative product culture, role‑modelling BT’s behaviours and ways of working.

Growth and capability development

  • Continuously develop product management skills, commercial understanding and technical fluency.
  • Contribute to improvements in product ways of working, tools and practices.
  • Build readiness over time to take on broader scope, increased autonomy and leadership responsibility.

Essential Skills / Experience

The ideal candidate will have had experience working with mobile network data and its application in transport companies (government departments responsible for the transport network, transport organisations and/or consultancies).

  • Proven experience owning end‑to‑end data-driven product delivery in a digital, data or platform environment
  • Strong grounding in product discovery, experimentation and agile delivery - comfortable running lean discovery loops from problem framing with users and assumption mapping through to prototype testing and experiment design to reduce risk before committing to build
  • Understanding of how data is used by transport organisations and consultancies to provide critical expertise in shaping infrastructure, managing traffic impacts, and supporting developments.
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams across engineering, design and data.
  • Exposure to commercial thinking, including value cases or benefits tracking

Desirable Skills / Experience

  • Understanding of geospatial mobile network data, including footfall, dwells and weblog data.
  • Experience working on data, analytics or AI‑enabled products.
  • Familiarity with OKRs or similar outcome‑based frameworks.
  • Experience operating in a large or complex organisation
  • A curious and learning mindset, comfortable working in ambiguous, evolving problem spaces
  • Clear communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate a product vision and narrative, and the ability to manage multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to use customer insight and data to inform product decisions
