This role operates within a highly secure data centre environment, supporting the management and operational integrity of critical infrastructure across key sites, including communications rooms and data halls. You will play a vital role in ensuring high availability, resilience, and performance of services that support a major multi-million-pound contract.
You will be responsible for delivering against defined KPIs aligned to ISO standards, ensuring compliance and supporting customer audits. Through routine checks and proactive monitoring, you will help maintain optimal environmental conditions and work closely with Facilities, Power, and Property teams to resolve any issues impacting service performance.
Security is a key focus of the role. You will work in line with strict contractual requirements, ensuring compliance across physical and logical controls. You will also manage site access and asset processes, ensuring all visitors are logged and authorised, and that equipment is accurately recorded and asset tagged to maintain full traceability.
What you’ll be doing
This role is responsible for managing and maintaining critical infrastructure across a primary data centre environment, including comms rooms and data halls, ensuring high levels of operational reliability, availability, and performance. You will oversee physical capacity and build authorisation across the full service lifecycle, while monitoring and maintaining optimal environmental conditions such as UPS and air conditioning in partnership with Facilities, Power, and Property teams. A key part of the role is ensuring compliance with strict physical and logical security standards as the Local Site Security Officer, working closely with BT Security. You will maintain site governance in line with ISO standards, manage routine maintenance of key systems, and ensure all visitor access is correctly scheduled, logged, and escorted where required. In addition, you will take ownership of asset management processes, ensuring all equipment is accurately recorded, tagged, and maintained within the CMDB in collaboration with SACM teams. The role also involves delivering KPI and operational reporting aligned to contractual and compliance requirements, providing regular updates to senior stakeholders on site performance, risks, and issues, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and service quality. You will also support and develop colleagues, promoting a collaborative “one team” approach while ensuring adherence to BT standards and behaviours.
The skills you’ll need
Security clearance is required and must be maintained at the highest level, including any relevant technology accreditations as defined in the Security Aspects Letter (SAL) and associated contracts.
You will be accountable for delivering planned and reactive work across the data centre estate, prioritising tasks and ensuring process compliance. You will also monitor performance, including cost and quality, and ensure all activities follow agreed procedures.
Health and safety is a key responsibility, ensuring all work is carried out safely and with consideration for wellbeing at all times.
You will drive continuous improvement using ITIL practices, supporting efficiency and understanding the business value behind improvement activities.
You will help manage resources effectively, balancing workload and supporting out-of-hours planning based on operational needs.
You will control costs within agreed limits, ensuring work is delivered efficiently and effectively.
You will take ownership of site condition, ensuring issues are identified, escalated, and resolved in collaboration with Facilities teams.
You will build strong technical understanding of data centre operations through site engagement and working closely with delivery teams.
You will maintain strong stakeholder relationships, providing operational input to programme teams and supporting the successful rollout of change across sites.
