Job Description

Job Req ID: 58250

Function: Cyber Security

Location: Manchester (New Bailey)

Salary: Competitive + Benefits (Internal grade E)

About the role

This pivotal role provides technical knowledge and support as part of work for managing our UK secure contracts. Success in this position hinges on building strong, trust-based working relationships through clear communication, consistent delivery, and meeting expectations and deadlines.

You will be responsible for monitoring and responding to security events and incidents across managed customer environments. The role involves real-time analysis and incident handling within our Cyber Security Operations Centre (CySOC), which operates on a 24/7/365 basis.

What you’ll be doing

• As a member of the CySOC, you will play a vital role in detecting and responding to immediate security threats across our commercial customers networks globally, working within a 24x7 Security Operations Centre (SOC) environment.
• Monitor, analyse, investigate and remediate real-time activity to identify malicious or anomalous behaviour that may indicate a security compromise.
• Collaborate with incident response teams and other stakeholders to ensure security issues are addressed swiftly and effectively.
• Utilise advanced technologies and defined processes to support the SOC’s mission of identifying and responding to cybersecurity incidents.

Essential Skills / Experience

• To succeed in this role, you will need a foundational understanding of cybersecurity principles and familiarity with security methodologies such as MITRE ATT&CK and NIST, with the ability to apply this knowledge in a dynamic operational environment.
• A genuine enthusiasm for cybersecurity, combined with a proactive and self-motivated attitude, is essential. You should be comfortable working independently and taking initiative to solve problems.
• Strong attention to detail is critical, along with the ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritise effectively, and maintain accuracy under pressure.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills—both verbal and written—are important for collaborating with colleagues and engaging with stakeholders in a professional manner.

Desirable Skills / Experience

The ideal candidate will bring experience working within IT and/or network environments, with a foundation in operational security and customer engagement.

Key experience includes:
• Demonstrated ability to thrive in high-pressure, fast-paced operational environments.
• Hands-on experience working collaboratively within technical teams to deliver secure outcomes.
• Exposure to IT and network infrastructure, with a solid understanding of core technologies and protocols.
• Experience supporting customer-facing engagements, with a focus on professionalism and responsiveness
