Job Description

Please be noted the role is a 12 months Fixed term contract role.

About the role

Although the communications team might support different parts of the business, we’re all working for one company and the work we do in communications reflects that.

You’ll be responsible for a few big things:

  • Supporting internal engagement plan and transformation projects by building strong communications plans, in coordination with the external communications team where relevant.
  • Providing support and internal communications counsel to BT International leadership team (ILT) based in One Braham, including onsite support for key moments (e.g. All Hands Calls, video content).
  • Owning and continuously evolving the planning and management of internal communications channels, ensuring the right messages land in the right place, at the right time, across BTI
  • Acting as the key point of contact with Group for BT-wide campaigns, ensuring strong alignment while tailoring execution to BT International audiences
  • Leading the culture agenda for BT International, shaping and delivering engagement initiatives that embed behaviours, reinforce priorities and bring our culture to life.
  • Working with the leadership team in International to design, gain support for and deliver the communications strategy, demonstrating the benefits for key audiences and enabling leaders to create connections where their people feel engaged and inspired to drive business success.
  • Communicating the case for change, demonstrating a clear understanding of our strategy, bringing it to life in the work that you do.
  • Taking an audience first approach to communication and championing their needs

What you’ll be doing

The day to day:

  • Supporting the transformation journey by developing a change narrative for the team you support, in line with the overarching transformation narrative for International.
  • Spotting the stories we need to share and knowing how to say ‘no’ to anything that doesn’t help improve understanding of the bigger picture and drive advocacy in our people and in our brand.
  • Making sure that any content you create for your audiences looks, sounds and feels like BT (in a good way) and is setting the standard for inclusive communication.
  • You’ll work closely with other communications colleagues, Marketing and HR partners to work out what and when communications need to be adapted for your audience.
  • Staying on the lookout to try new things and bring fresh ideas to the table in pursuit of raising the quality of our communications time and again. You’re not afraid to challenge when you disagree with something but you’re able to do so constructively.
  • Measuring and analysing the effectiveness of the communication and engagement plan and drive for continuous improvement.
  • Proactively sharing any brilliant work from the part of International you support back into the International communications team to share across BT.
  • Contributing as a core member of the International communications team and working with colleagues across BT to develop best in class templates and processes for communicating.
  • Supporting on campaigns and core elements of the International-wide plan, shaping what we do across International with your knowledge of what matters to your audiences, while ensuring alignment with Group-led activity.

Essential Skills / Experience

  • Inspiring communicator, with strong verbal and written communication skills – particularly for presentations and creation of plans and strategy.
  • Strategic thinker, with the ability to ‘join the dots’ on the overall impact of change across the business.
  • Skilled in change management, with the ability to guide teams through complex transformations by driving adoption and ensuring outcomes in line with the Group's strategy and values.
  • Top-notch strategic and planning abilities – able to manage multiple plans and adapt to changing priorities and timelines quickly and easily.
  • Energetic, creative and collaborative partner, experienced in advising the best way to land messages, working across a wide range of channels and skilled in creating brilliant communications.
  • Effective questioning and ability to challenge constructively. You’ll be able to get to the heart of a problem quickly and challenge existing assumptions to uncover the best solution.

Desirable Skills / Experience

  • Ability to break down complicated, technical and corporate speak into interesting and engaging communications that showcase our commitment to treating colleagues like adults that we like.
  • Ability to work independently on high profile sensitive projects and deliver on time and with excellent feedback.
  • Influential and resilient, with excellent stakeholder management, at all levels, especially tricky ones (there might be a few…)
  • Demonstrable understanding of BT and adapting communications for internal/external audiences – we’re a specialist team so we need someone experienced and in the know about what this takes
  • You’ll know what it’s like to deliver brilliant communications to a large audience, working closely with your network in internal communications, external communications and the wider business to make sure that what you do lands as well as possible.
  • You’ll be a firm advocate for BT and the things we deliver for our employees, sharing best practice with the wider internal communications team, proactively providing ideas, protecting and promoting our brand and inspiring others.

In a nutshell, you’ll be a writer, creative, an ideas sponge, a team player, a challenger, a comms planner. You’ll be unfazed by corporate jargon and ambiguity – in fact you see it as part of the fun. Up for it? Get in touch.
