Why this job matters

The Commercial Lawyer will support a broad range of commercial legal work across private and public sector activity. This role is aligned to a wider team that works flexibly across both areas of the business, with one position more closely supporting private sector work and another more closely supporting public sector work.

The role is suited to a qualified lawyer from NQ upwards, or someone with proven relevant experience, who can advise on commercial matters, support customer negotiations, and contribute to the delivery of legal support on both larger and smaller deals. Depending on experience, the successful candidate may second chair on larger transactions led by senior lawyers while also taking ownership of smaller matters directly. In-house experience is preferred, including experience gained during a training contract, as this role requires a practical, business-oriented approach to legal support.

What you’ll be doing

  • Support commercial legal matters across private and public sector business activity.
  • Advise on and help negotiate customer-facing commercial arrangements.
  • Draft, review, and amend legal documentation as part of deal support.
  • Lead legal support on smaller deals and contribute to larger transactions under the guidance of senior lawyers.
  • Work closely with senior lawyers and the wider team to provide responsive, business-focused legal advice.
  • Contribute flexibly across the team in line with changing workloads, priorities, and deal activity.
  • Maintain a practical understanding of the legal and commercial considerations relevant to the business.
  • Where applicable, support work that may benefit from security clearance, although DV clearance is not required for this role.

Skills and Experiences

  • Qualified lawyer, NQ asa minimum but ideally 2 yrs + in commercial legal work.
  • Ability to support commercial contracts, negotiations, and general deal-related legal activity.
  • Strong drafting skills and confidence working directly on legal documentation.
  • Sound judgement and the ability to balance legal risk with commercial outcomes.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across the business.
  • A practical, adaptable approach suited to a team that works across both private and public sector matters.
  • In-house experience is preferred, including experience gained as part of a training contract.
  • An interest in developing broad commercial legal experience within a collaborative legal team.
