About the role

As a Cloud Platform Engineering specialist, you will play a critical part in the Digital Services Platform (DSP) Engineering team. You will drive hands-on cloud architecture decisioning, design, development and support of the infrastructure (IaC) evolution which is critical to web and mobile platforms, apps and backend systems. You will provide critical support to the platform tenants who are delivering strategic products and services across the 3 BT Consumer brands. You are responsible for technical leadership, architectural guidance and support of stakeholders across Engineering, Product and SRE functions. You will contribute to the evolution and operational improvements across AI, FinOps & DevSecOps.

You are fundamental to the transition of the digital technology and associated roadmap for our internal and external users who build on our cloud platforms. You will have a passion for delivery and bias for accountable action.

What you’ll be doing

• Designs and leads technical evolution of Platform Engineering on AWS, automation tools, frameworks, and code pipelines (continuous integration/continuous delivery pipelines),
• Ensures best practices are followed with a focus on the re-use of application code
• Demonstrates consistent software delivery practices and produces continuous integration/continuous delivery platform solutions using cloud, infrastructure as code (IaC) and native container technologies.
• Operates as an SME, constantly evaluating the design and building of infrastructure tooling that improves reliability across the entire product surface area at distributed scale.
• Supports the current-state solution portfolio to identify deficiencies through aging of the technologies used by the application, or misalignment with business requirements
• Supports the team to deliver complex and large-scale multi-tenant technology and PaaS solutions that provide business value and meet customer requirements, encouraging the team’s use of innovative approaches and tools to solve high impact, complex problems
• Manages data and information to enhance the IT Operations environment to evolve to AIOps
• Recommends continuous improvement opportunities to improve the site reliability engineering team processes such as through the use of AI and big data to aggregate
observational data (from monitoring systems output, job logs, syslogs, etc.) and engagement data (from ticketing, incident, and event recording system data) to produce a virtuous circle of continuous insights yielding continuous improvements and fixes
• Influences peers and senior managers across the organisation, working with key stakeholders to ensure alignment and contributing directly to the key strategic efforts
• Acts as a technical workstream leader within DSP
• Determines solutions that scale systems sustainably through mechanisms like automation and evolves systems by pushing for changes that improve reliability and velocity
• Supports and leads the design, writing and delivery of infrastructure as code software to improve the availability, scalability, latency, and efficiency of services
• Drives automation & AI initiatives to reduce manual and repetitive work, ensuring a scalable production service
• Supports the design and implementation of robust monitoring and alerting systems

Essential Skills / Experience

• 7+ years of hands-on experience managing enterprise-scale containerized infrastructure.
• Strong experience across EKS, ECS, EC2, Lambda, S3, RDS, CloudWatch, and IAM.
• Deep knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker, Helm, and ArgoCD.
• Proven expertise with Terraform, Crossplane, CloudFormation, and cloud automation.
• Strong understanding of GitLab CI, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, and deployment pipelines.
• Proficient in Java/Spring Boot or Python for platform engineering and automation.
• Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, and Dynatrace.
• Strong understanding of cloud security, compliance, governance, and risk management practices.
• AWS Certified Professional – AWS DevOps Engineer or Solutions Architect certification (Associate/Professional) preferred.

Desirable Skills / Experience

• Proven ability to make scalable, secure, and business-aligned architecture decisions.
• Strong experience in AI/ML adoption, platform engineering, and CI/CD tooling.
• Expertise in Cloud FinOps practices, Cloud Engineering migrations, service onboarding and Cloud Security management and tooling
• Demonstrates end-to-end ownership of technical change, delivery, and outcomes.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Effectively partners with CoE leadership and stakeholders to deliver business priorities.
• Drives automation and AI-enabled solutions to improve efficiency and productivity.
• Clearly articulates technical vision and influences diverse audiences.
• Fosters cross-functional teamwork, alignment, and shared success.
