About the role
This role supports the CoE function to ensure automation becomes a strategic pillar of BT’s end to end transformation.
By delivering automations aligned to agreed tooling, standards and ways of working, and by supporting consistent practices across lines of business, this role strengthens BT’s ability to scale automation safely, efficiently and sustainably.
You will work with the Automation CoE Lead and federated automation teams to apply standards, contribute reusable assets, and maintain visibility across process registration, platform health and delivery performance.
Your work supports cost optimisation, platform stability, compliance, reusability and speed to market through high quality delivery and continuous improvement.
What you’ll be doing
- Supports on the implementation of technical solutions for both customers and colleagues and delivers on the resolution of inter-system issues, working within cross-functional squads to
assist in creating and implementing technical solutions for a domain or cross domain activity within a specific technology area - Supports the design and development of software solutions in accordance with the wider architecture and security standards
- Undertakes technical reviews to continually update knowledge and skills in software engineering principles and practices, ensuring a base level of technical specialism proficiency to enable industry and quality standards to positively impact work and customers
- Supports with the designs of technical specifications and development of software solutions of smaller and /or less complex initiatives in partnership with team, contributing towards the
quality of delivery - Supports the implementation and maintenance of high-quality tools and automation processes to support continuous delivery and developer productivity
- Supports the delivery of an ambitious and compelling technical roadmap to meet the needs of the business, engineering team, and partner teams
- Supports engineering and operational excellence initiatives, assisting with implementing metrics and processes for regular assessment and improvement
- Supports in the implementation of ways to improve working processes within the area of software engineering responsibility
- Supports in evaluating tools and implementing new capabilities (e.g. proofs of concept, feature assessments, AI integrations) to enhance productivity and delivery quality.
- Supports in strengthening automation governance by applying delivery standards, approval flows and SDLC quality gates, maintaining controlled documentation, and partnering with architecture and technical leaders to enable compliant, scalable ways of working across federated teams
- Improve automation governance, reusability and platform integration through shared standards, reusable components and roadmap-aligned delivery.
Essential Skills / Experience
- Automation & Technical Capability – Strong understanding of automation tools (Blue Prism or similar), integration patterns and enterprise workflows, with experience supporting platform operations and contributing to continuous tooling improvements.
- Delivery, Governance & Standards – Ability to translate business needs into well-defined requirements and deliver solutions aligned to CoE standards, governance frameworks, and established delivery methodologies.
- Insights, Reporting & Continuous Improvement – Experience using analytics/reporting tools (e.g. Power BI) combined with a proven ability to apply standards, templates and frameworks, driving insights and continuous improvement from delivery outcomes.
Desirable Skills / Experience
- Knowledge of low code platforms, AI driven automation discovery, or process mining tools.
- Understanding of enterprise architecture frameworks.
- Understanding of different types of integrations
- Experience operating within governance programmes (approval gates, best practices, compliance checkpoints) and producing evidence for audits/reviews
- Excellent written documentation: ability to create and maintain playbooks and guidelines, and contribute to standards owned by the CoE
- Working knowledge of enterprise automation ecosystems, process design, and reusable component management
- Awareness of modern technology trends—AI, low code, automation discovery tools
- A working knowledge of Power platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI)
