About the role

The Assurance Specialist role will sit in BT’s Business division and more specifically within the Design and Delivery organisation which is accountable for the delivery of complex programmes and projects for our business customers across the UK public and private sector (e.g. defence, police, justice, retail, banking, regions, etc.)

BT Business provides services that are business‑critical and, in some cases, safety‑critical to customers operating in regulated environments. The Assurance Specialist plays a key role in protecting BT, its customers, and end users by ensuring that services continue to meet contractual, regulatory, safety, and security obligations throughout their lifecycle.

The role spans in‑life assurance, assurance of change (project related or service related), and project transition into service, ensuring that assurance artefacts remain current, evidence‑based, and aligned to contractual and regulatory requirements.

What you’ll be doing

The Assurance Specialist is responsible for delivering plans and artefacts to support the Assurance position for all services delivered under the Master Services Agreement (MSA) for our customer within the safety critical service industry.

The Assurance Specialist undertakes assurance for in‑life services and change, to enable provision of an authoritative compliance position on the delivery of Assurance for the BT services delivered within the Master Service Agreement.

Key Accountabilities

Governance and Controls

  • Responsible for the integrity and accuracy of Service Assurance Case Reports (SACR) and / or Security Assurance Case Reports (SecACR).
  • Act as an assurance decision authority for services within scope of the MSA.
  • Attend assurance governance forums (e.g. Service & Security Assurance Boards).
  • Identify, assess, and manage assurance risks and issues, escalating where required through agreed governance routes.
  • Provide clear Assurance judgements and recommendations to senior internal and customer stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of BT assurance processes, standards, and capability.
  • Development of Assurance project plans for and for the delivery of activity against plan.

Annual review and lifecycle assurance

  • Participate in the annual review cycle for all Assurance artefacts in scope.
  • Determine when Assurance case uplifts are required and coordinate their delivery and approval with the customer.
  • Ensure Assurance documentation remains current, robust, and defensible throughout the service lifecycle.

Assurance of change

  • Assess the Assurance impact of technical, operational, and organisational changes.
  • Coordinate impact assessments for incidents, service improvements, and change proposals.
  • Ensure the update, review & acceptance of Service Assurance Plans, Security Assurance Case Reports and Service Assurance Case Reports to reflect changes made across the service.

Project and transition assurance

  • Undertake Assurance activity for new projects transitioning into service.
  • Assurance for project or change across the NATS MSA contract.
  • Ensure required Assurance deliverables are produced, reviewed, and approved prior to service entry.
  • Challenge delivery plans where Assurance activities are insufficient, unclear, or poorly sequenced.

Evidence and traceability management

  • Ensure quality and acceptability of Assurance evidence.
  • Ensure traceability between requirements, design, evidence, and Assurance arguments.
  • Complete evidence updates for use in Assurance artefacts.

Stakeholder management

  • Act as an interface with customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Attend Assurance workshops to agree scope, approach, and delivery plans.
  • Communicate Assurance positions clearly, confidently, and credibly.

Essential Skills / Experience

  • Proven experience in service, security, or safety assurance within complex or regulated environments
  • Strong understanding of service lifecycle assurance and governance or security lifecycle assurance and governance
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Desirable Skills / Experience

  • Ability to make and defend independent assurance judgements
  • Experience of working with senior stakeholders and customers
  • Ability to work under pressurised timescales with strong levels of resilience
