This is an exciting technical role in BT’s Applied Research team where the individual will apply their key expertise in the area of AI/ML, in particular with Computer Vision, within a clearly defined sphere of technical knowledge to complex business issues or opportunities. The role holder actively engages with colleagues to progress new research in important technical topics and supports the realisation of business value from research and innovation outputs.
This applied research role is suitable for somebody with a degree in the early phase of their professional career.
You will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge computer vision and AI applications with real-world impact on broadband infrastructure.
This role is an entry-level position within an established research team with a strong innovation focus, ideal for early-career professionals.
This role will be based in Ipswich or Bristol and our hybrid working model means you are expected to be in the office 3 days per week.
What you’ll be doing
In this role you will have exposure to complex, real-world datasets and the ability to contribute to operational decision-making across the organisation.
You will work on projects that directly influence how the company understands and plans its network infrastructure with the potential to develop expertise in machine learning and computer vision in a structured research environment.
In addition:
- Requirement to quickly develop proficiency in computer vision techniques and image analysis
- Working with complex, large-scale datasets that may require significant data processing and analysis
- Translating research findings into actionable insights for engineering and operations teams
- Technical expert responsible for maintaining expertise in a specific technical domain.
- Responsible for intellectual property creation, contributing to patent filing with their team and supporting IPR exploitation where appropriate.
- Accountable for performing research in Sustainable Network Optimisation driving high impact and high value across multiple domains.
- Responsible for authoring technical papers, capturing intellectual property.
- Responsible for developing novel research work and contributing towards recommendations for future research projects.
Essential skills / experience
- Exposure to machine learning during studies or early career:
- Exposure to AI during studies or early career: must have (highest priority).
- Work experience with imagery in some form.
