Job Description

We’re looking for an UW Review Actuary

About Brit

At Brit, we believe that the uncertainty of the future should never stand in the way of progress. That’s why we exist: to help people and businesses face the future and thrive.

As a leading Lloyd’s insurer with a growing Bermuda entity, we bring together expertise, innovation and collaboration to deliver long-term value for our clients and partners.

We are looking for an UW Review Actuary (a newly created role) to help us maximise the impact of actuarial analysis and support our strategic ambitions. If you’re looking for a place to make a real difference read on.[LW1.1]

What you’ll be doing

You’ll play a key role in supporting the Head of UW Review with the ongoing development and delivery of the Business Management Loss Ratio Framework, helping to ensure it is embedded effectively across the business. You’ll work closely with colleagues across Actuarial, Risk and Underwriting, acting as a trusted point of contact for loss ratio insights, cycle management support and business planning activity.

In this role, you’ll contribute to the production and interpretation of business management loss ratios, providing clear analysis that helps stakeholders understand prospective underwriting performance. You’ll support regular reporting into governance forums and help identify areas for targeted review, working closely with Actuarial Portfolio Insights teams to deliver high quality outputs to agreed timelines.

You’ll also be involved in the wider business planning process, supporting the coordination of actuarial input and providing thoughtful challenge to ensure plans properly reflect the impact of the underwriting cycle. Alongside this, you’ll collaborate across teams to support cycle management activity, helping to shape forward- looking views and supporting a consistent and joined up approach to decision making across the business.

More broadly, you’ll contribute to the ongoing development of the Actuarial team, supporting improvements in processes and the use of insight across the business. You’ll build strong relationships with stakeholders and use your technical expertise to influence decisions, helping the business navigate uncertainty with confidence.

What you’ll bring

You’ll have experience working in an actuarial role at a Lloyd’s Syndicate, London Market (re)insurer or a consultancy firm, with a solid understanding of a broad range of long-tail and short-tail lines of business.

You’ll be analytically minded, be able to interpret data and analyses, and summarise conclusions in a succinct and impactful way. You’ll communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders and bring a proactive, professional approach to your work.

You’ll demonstrate curiosity and a continuous improvement mindset and will be comfortable challenging the status quo. You’ll be comfortable working with ambiguity and be able to manage your time effectively in a deadline-driven environment.

We welcome everyone wholeheartedly

We’ve got a truly diverse, genuinely inclusive work environment. We comfortably and confidently bring our whole selves to work, because we know we’ll be respected, valued and accepted whoever we are. Our Employee Resource groups are safe spaces for people to share their experiences, aspirations and suggestions about how we do things.
