This role forms part of our growth plans, we are looking for a Senior Environmental and Sustainability Consultant to support the Environmental Management and Sustainability capability within the Environmental Services Team. You will play a key role in delivering environmental and sustainable projects, enhancing our capabilities in relation to environmental management and sustainability within the Defence sector but also in a wider market.

As a Senior Environmental and Sustainability Consultant you will enjoy a varied role as you will manage and deliver environmental management and sustainability projects to schedule and budget, while meeting client and corporate expectations. You will be responsible for the technical input into environmental management and sustainability projects including maintaining and growing our capability in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).

You will also support senior colleagues with business development pursuits and liaise with clients and end users on environmental management and sustainability issues.

In this role you will actively participate in engagement with academia to provide expertise and advice on the future of the environmental and sustainability discipline in the Defence sector.

You will join a growing Environmental Management and Sustainability team engaged in consultancy projects in the following areas:

· Defence Environmental Assessments

· Defence projects across Domains

· Support and preparation of Strategic/ Outline Business Cases to help with the Environmental Management and Sustainability Capability

· Environmental management and sustainability in wider markets such as other government departments.

The role presents the opportunity to work from time to time with colleagues working in Australia and Canada, on aspects of Environmental Management and Sustainability.

This role will also provide technical leadership for more junior team members and has a high potential for career progression as the team grows.

This role includes an expectation to undertake a Quality Assurance role for projects in which you have experience in.

About you

We are looking for enthusiastic, dynamic and flexible team members, who share our values of trust, respect and collaboration. The experience and competencies required for the role are as follows:

· Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree (or equivalent), from a recognised institute or university, preferably in an Environmental Discipline and an MSc or PhD would be beneficial.

· At least 4 years’ experience in at least one of the following areas: Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Environmental Consultancy, Environmental related discipline and/or including defence related domains etc.

· Be a member of an appropriate professional body, such as IEMA, and be proactive in managing their own professional CPD, and we can provide support, training, and tailored experience for you to achieve these, if not already held.

· Experience and understanding of the requirements of ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management Systems.

· Experience and understanding of Life Cycle Assessments.

· Experience and understanding of the requirements of environmental protection legislation.

· Experience of environmental aspect and impact identification and prioritisation/assessment.

· Experience of applying MOD Environmental Protection Policy and Standards (e.g., DSA02 suite of regulations, Defence Standard 00-051, Project Oriented Environmental Management System (POEMS) etc.).

· Experience of authoring environmental management focused documents in accordance with client’s policies and standards (e.g., environmental policy, environmental assessment, environmental case reports and legislation compliance.)

· Effective communicator, with a strong ability and enthusiasm to present professionally through verbal and written communication.

· A willingness to undertake further development in line with the role requirements.

· You must be self-motivated and have a logical and pragmatic approach to problem solving, be flexible and have a genuine enthusiasm to contribute to the growth of a successful business.

· As much of our work is directly customer focused, you must be articulate with professional presentational and written communication skills and be a confident individual able to work as part of a team or act independently as necessary.

· In addition to these duties, the post holder may be required to carry out such other duties as may reasonably be required, from time to time, to achieve the above role purpose. We expect you to share our passion for creating a more environmentally and socially sustainable future for all our stakeholders.

· You must be able to satisfy UK Ministry of Defence security requirements and be eligible to work in the UK to be considered for this role.
