About the role

We are looking for both Senior and Principal Systems Engineers and as such you will be working with customers providing engineering and consultancy type skills. Much of our work is acquisition and support orientated with MoD (DE&S, Defence Digital and Front-Line Commands) and the wider defence and security industry. You will join an energetic and experienced team, supporting the delivery of systems engineering activities throughout the lifecycle.

Depending on grade you could be leading the development and management of User and System level requirements, V&V planning, acceptance and assurance management for complex systems and platforms. Engaging subject matter experts as required to development requirements, risks or solution options. Defining or applying systems engineering processes (e.g. ISO15288:2015) across the lifecycle and developing appropriate engineering documentation, e.g. Strategy documents, Management Plans, Requirement Strategies, Acceptance Plans, Architectural Definitions, etc. Using your understanding of engineering within the MOD’s procurement framework, Knowledge In Defence (KID), to develop the engineering artefacts required to support the customer’s business case process and CADMID phases. Developing architectures across the enterprise using standard languages (Archimate, UML, SysML) and frameworks (MoDAF, TOGAF). Technical lead on projects, delivering identified engineering outputs within time, cost and quality constraints.

In terms of location, the Systems Engineering capability is based in the Bath office but with our people spread across the country we are very happy to explore flexible and hybrid working arrangements. Please note that travel to customer sites or to attend meetings will be required. These roles are nominally full-time but we recognise that sometimes the best people aren’t available full-time, so we are happy to consider part-time and Job-share.

About you

Ideally you will have some or all the following:

  • Experience with concept phase projects.
  • Experience with technology development.
  • Experience of leading requirements elicitation and management in challenging stakeholder environments.
  • Professionally recognised with an appropriate institution e.g. CEng, A/C/ESEP.
  • Confident in a customer facing/consultation role.
  • Systematic and logical in your approach to problem solving.

Missing skills? Let us be the judge! BMT are passionate about people; we recognise that technology moves quickly and that no one can learn everything, which is why we seek those who can adapt and demonstrate the aptitude to learn. With enthusiasm and the right attitude, we can help you discover your potential.

Please note, the successful candidates must hold, or be eligible to obtain, UK security clearance to SC level. DV clearance is desirable but not necessary.
