Job Description

BMT exists to help navigate some of the most important and impactful engineering challenges of our time, creating an environment where people with outstanding technical knowledge strive to deliver a safer, more efficient, more effective, and sustainable future.

With 1,300+ experts across the UK, Europe, Asia, Australia, and the Americas, we help clients make informed decisions by delivering practical solutions, with the environment and sustainability at their core. As an employee-owned company, we reinvest profits into technology, strategic growth, and profit sharing, driving a safer, more efficient future.

We are seeking a Business Development Manager to take a lead role in driving our regional growth plans across our Ports and Resources markets. Reporting to the Future Business Director—APAC, you will be responsible for building a strong pipeline of high-quality opportunities, positioning BMT for success in these critical sectors. This is a hands-on role that requires a combination of strategic thinking, technical credibility, and a highly collaborative nature to help us meet our ambitious growth targets in the Ports and Resources sectors.

This role would ideally be based in Brisbane, but we are open to the right candidates across Australia.

Key Responsibilities

In this role you will:

  • Lead new business growth by developing new clients and supporting the APAC Programmes team in growing existing business across our Ports and Resources sectors.
  • Identify and lead growth initiatives through campaign and capture management, specifically targeting gaps in our current sector coverage.
  • Collaborate with global and regional teams to develop and execute long-term capture plans that grow BMT's capability and technology in the region.
  • Build a long-term pipeline of high-quality opportunities by analysing market trends, competitor activity, and customer procurement behaviours within the Ports and Resources sectors.
  • Engage with senior Industry stakeholders and Port Authorities to understand market trends and customer needs.
  • Champion BMT’s work winning processes and drive opportunity governance.
  • Contribute to product and capability development strategies based on your intimate understanding of customer requirements.
  • Represent BMT at events, exhibitions, and other activities to promote our brand and position in the market.

About you

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • A relevant Engineering qualification, with experience applied in Ports (either through port operations or in consulting/primes working for ports).
  • Proven experience in a professional Business Development position (not just technical delivery) with demonstrable evidence of market growth.
  • Outstanding market knowledge of the Ports and Resources sectors, with a preference for candidates who have exposure to Asset Management systems and principles.
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to translate market trends into profitable decisions in a results-driven environment.
  • Proven track record of influencing and motivating cross-functional teams and building effective local and international networks.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills to deliver complex messages in an engaging, unambiguous, and informative manner.
  • Personal drive and an appetite to grow a successful business.
  • Unrestricted working rights in Australia.
