Job Description
Our Board of Trustees (known as Council), Co-opted members of Trustee committees and Advisory Board members are a vital part of Battersea, bringing their considerable experience and skills along with real enthusiasm and commitment to these crucial roles to support the delivery of our ambitious organisational strategy.
The Animal Health and Welfare Committee plays a vital role in ensuring the highest standards of care for the animals at Battersea. It provides oversight of governance and expert support for all animal health and welfare activities across our Operations and Clinic directorates.
The Committee helps Battersea maintain best practice in shelter medicine and animal welfare, ensuring our policies and procedures reflect the latest evidence-based approaches and legislative requirements. The Committee’s remit is regularly reviewed to ensure it meets the evolving needs of the charity.
We are looking for co-opted members to join this committee. This is a voluntary position and a co-opted member is not a trustee or employee but has been recruited to join a committee in order to supplement the skills and experience within a committee. They will not form part of the quorum and do not make decisions on behalf of Battersea but their skills and experience help Battersea navigate technical areas and decisions.
We are seeking individuals with expertise in veterinary science, animal behaviour and/or ethical decision making who can bring insight, challenge, and support to Battersea’s work. We would welcome applications from veterinary surgeons, veterinary nurses or other allied professions. You should share our commitment to improving the lives of dogs and cats and have the ability to contribute to strategic discussions.
How to Apply:
To apply for this role please submit an application containing your CV and a supporting statement of no more than 2 pages that addresses how you meet the requirements of the person specification and brings to life your motivation for becoming a Co-Opted Member at Battersea – we would like to know what it is about us, our cause and our work that resonates with you personally.
We strive to create lasting change for animals and the people that care for them and believe that creating a truly diverse and inclusive Battersea, which is proudly open to all, is essential in our mission to deliver greater impact for dogs and cats everywhere. This a strategic priority for us at Battersea, and we are committed to ensuring our Council of Trustees and its Committees and Advisory Boards have the depth and breadth of both professional and personal experience to help us achieve our plans and to ensure that this commitment to diversity & inclusion, reinforced by our values, is embedded in our day-to-day working practices and our work together.
We are committed to providing a welcoming and inclusive experience for all staff, volunteers, trustees and committee members and those hoping to join us. We understand the value of diverse voices, perspectives, and experiences to help us deliver even more for our dogs and cats, and we welcome applicants from all sections of the community.
Battersea is committed to inclusive working practices throughout our recruitment and selection process. We want to enable all who work with us, including all applicants, to be the best they can be so if you wish to discuss reasonable adjustments that would help you to participate in this process, please indicate this in your application and we will be in touch with you.
