SHE Management Systems Lead (Safety, Health & Environment)

Job Location: This role is based at Melbourne Central Office.

Role Description:

Reporting to the Head of SHE Government & Assurance, the SHE Management Systems Lead plays a pivotal role in shaping and advancing the BAE Systems Australia SHE Management System. You will drive the development of practical, high-impact procedures, tools and improvement programs that balance regulatory compliance, industry best practice and operational effectiveness—making it easier for our people to work safely, confidently and efficiently every day.

Core Duties:

  • Lead the implementation of the SHE Management System practices, continuously improving processes, tools and training to meet evolving business needs.
  • Design and enhance simple, user-friendly SHE Management System documentation aligned to BAE Systems requirements, legislative obligations, and ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards.
  • Partner with BAE Systems Australia and industry peers to benchmark leading practices, identify emerging trends and bring innovative approaches back into the business.
  • Collaborate across the national SHE community to deliver and embed enterprise-wide initiatives that strengthen safety performance.
  • Champion a Safety First culture, empowering leaders and teams to protect the wellbeing of employees, contractors, partners and customers.
  • Provide insight into SHE risks, ensuring management systems remain effective, relevant and responsive to the broader business and operating environment.

About You

  • Australian citizen and eligible to obtain and maintain a Defence Security Clearance (essential).
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated experience in SHE in a similar role operating in a large, complex organisation in a high risk work environment (i.e. mining, construction, manufacturing) undertaking the development/refinement and implementation of SHE management systems and risk management frameworks certified to ISO45001 and ISO1400.
  • A very high attention to detail, excellent time management and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing advice to middle or senior management level on high risk/ impact matters.
  • Knowledge and strong understanding of relevant WHS legislative, regulatory and compliance frameworks and governance requirements.
  • Strong experience in Co-pilot and all Microsoft Office packages, including Word, Excel, Powerpoint.
  • Bachelors Degree in a SHE related discipline.
  • Lead ICAM Investigator (or similar required).
