Job Description

SHE (Safety, Health & Environment) ADVISORS x 2

At BAE Systems Australia

  • Be part of the largest and most complex industrial undertaking in Australia’s history – AUKUS
  • Do interesting work that MATTERS
  • GROW your career
  • Be YOU

We work in a thriving sector – one that puts us at the forefront of exciting and meaningful work. Every day we push boundaries to produce some of the world’s most innovative and ground breaking technology, including AUKUS. We have been selected by the Australian Government to jointly build the nation’s conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarines. Every role in our AUKUS team is helping to deliver essential sovereign capability for Australia.

Recognised for delivering projects of global and national significance that help keep Australia safe, it is our shared passion that shapes our culture, and our people that make it a great place to work.

About the OPPORTUNITIES

To support mobilisation of the AUKUS Program, we have two opportunities for SHE Advisors (Safety, Health and Environment) based across our Osborne Naval Shipyard and Adelaide CBD offices. Reporting to the SHE Lead, you will provide specialist SHE advice, guidance and support to the line of business, helping to improve safety, health and environmental performance and maintain compliance with relevant legislative requirements. As the program continues to grow, you will also help shape workplace systems and culture during this important phase of establishment and expansion.

We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, such as working a 9-day fortnight and/or hybrid working.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Engage, collaborate and consult with teams to ensure alignment with SHE strategic priorities, equipping them with the tools, confidence and capability to effectively manage safety, health and environmental risks and obligations.
  • Support the implementation, review and continuous improvement of the BAE Systems Safety Management System, including risk assessments, Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), risk registers and associated training.
  • Manage site safety, health and environmental incident response and reporting processes, ensuring timely and accurate recording, investigation and analysis of hazards, injuries and incidents.
  • Facilitate the identification and communication of key learnings from incidents and hazards, working with SHE Leaders to strengthen organisational learning and continuous improvement.
  • Participate in compliance assurance activities aligned with the SHE Strategy and business improvement plans, verifying and validating the effectiveness of SHE risk controls.
  • Support the maintenance and administration of SHE risk registers for the relevant line of business or region.

About YOU

  • Australian Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Defence security clearance (Essential).
  • Demonstrated previous experience in a similar SHE role.
  • Strong working knowledge of relevant legislative, regulatory and compliance frameworks, together with governance requirements.
  • Experience managing safety, health and environmental risks within a high-risk industry (e.g. mining, construction or manufacturing) is highly desirable.
  • Tertiary qualification in Safety, Environment or a related discipline; however, equivalent skills and experience will be considered.
  • Well-developed communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate across multiple organisations.

In early 2024, the Australian Government selected BAE Systems and ASC Pty Ltd to build Australia’s new fleet of nuclear-powered submarines in a significant development in the AUKUS trilateral security pact between the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia. This program will focus on developing advanced submarine capabilities, integrating cutting-edge technology, and fostering international cooperation among Australia, the UK, and the US.

We believe in hiring for potential, we know that some candidates hesitate if they don’t tick all the boxes. If this role interests you, but you don’t meet all the criteria, we still encourage you to apply.
