Job Title: Senior Buyer

Location: Rochester, Kent. We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.

Salary: £32,000 – £40,000 depending on skills and experience

What you’ll be doing:

  • Receiving requisitions and demands, negotiate with suppliers, and process Purchase Orders, Purchase Order Amendments and/or Purchase Agreements
  • Negotiating Terms and Conditions, Price Agreements and other contractual documents with suppliers, and resolve most areas of conflict
  • Maintaining strong, effective relationships with suppliers
  • Understanding the budget requirements for the Purchase Orders as well as identify opportunities for cost reduction/avoidance through effective negotiation with their supplier
  • Understanding and communicating key performance indicators for the suppliers they are responsible for, and be able to engage with and address issues at a senior level within the supplier organisation
  • Maintaining Supplier open order books and ensure that correct and current data is maintained in the Oracle ERP system
  • Processing supplier returns, ensuring these are actioned in a timely manner
  • Understanding and supporting the implementation of corporate Procurement processes (Strategic Supplier Management, Sub-Contract Management, and Commodity Management)
  • Training/coaching junior members of staff on Procurement processes and procedures and support audits of these
  • Acting as an independent interface between suppliers and the business

Your skills and experiences:

Essential

  • Proven experience in buying/procurement/purchasing
  • Prior experience in leading negotiations and Supplier Relationship Management
  • Excellent team player and capable of taking a lead role when appropriate
  • Effective communicator and strong IT skills

Desirable

  • HNC/HND in Business Studies or equivalent experience
  • MCIPS Qualified or Equivalent experience
  • Manufacturing background would be preferable
  • Experience using ERP systems such as Oracle

The Procurement team:

You are responsible for the management of a supplier or group of suppliers for a particular business area or product/commodity group. They will maintain strong relationships with suppliers, internal project teams and functions to ensure that the requirements of the business are satisfied, and that the future relationship with the supplier is understood and managed effectively.
