Job Location: This role is based in Garden Island, NSW.

Role Description:

We have an exciting new opportunity for a Reliability Engineer to join our Maritime Sustainment business unit based at Garden Island, NSW.

You will be responsible for analysing data and trends on maritime equipment and systems, and for providing recommendations that assist in ensuring the effective operation of the equipment and systems until the Life of Type is reached.

Core Duties:

  • Monitor and analyse the ship’s equipment, design and systems performance by undertaking Reliability, Availability & Maintainability (RAM) modelling, calculations and data analytics
  • Assess the supportability of equipment to achieve an optimised lifecycle for the asset
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, supply support, maintenance and operations teams to optimise equipment availability
  • Plan and execute reliability improvement tasks with a proactive mindset
  • Applying Reliability and Cost models to develop strategies that optimise asset performance
  • Able to interpret engineering drawings and documents and ability to undertake engineering modelling

About YOU:

  • Tertiary qualification – Diploma, formal trade or technical certificate qualification in Engineering and/ or equivalent industry experience
  • Experience reviewing mechanical and electrical assessment data and preparing clear reports on equipment condition
  • Ability to analyse system performance, identify issues, and provide practical recommendations
  • Hands‑on experience operating and/or maintaining technical systems in a defence or similar technical environment
  • Familiarity with working under strict safety, compliance, and procedural requirements
  • Proven experience in asset management, equipment monitoring, maintenance, and safety auditing
  • Proficiency in data reporting, RAM metrics, and the application of industry best practices
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence, communicate, and resolve conflict effectively
  • Advanced understanding of engineering standards, RCA (Root Cause Analysis approach) and systems engineering.
  • NV1 clearance on eligibility to obtain

The Hobart Class Air Warfare Destroyers Team

BAE Systems Australia’s maritime workforce built and lead the sustainment of the Royal Australian Navy’s three Hobart class air warfare destroyers — HMAS Hobart, HMAS Brisbane, and HMAS Sydney.

The term ‘air warfare destroyer’ (AWD) — NATO designation DDG — describes a ship dedicated to the protection of accompanying ships, coastal land forces and coastal infrastructure from aircraft and missile attack.

The Hobart class AWDs carry a helicopter for surveillance, conduct surface and undersea warfare and carry naval gunfire capabilities.
