Job Title: Procurement Professional – Plant & Equipment

Location: Preston; Lancashire or Barrow-In-Furness; Cumbria. Travel to Barrow from Preston on an ad hoc basis will be required. We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.

Salary: Circa £42,000 dependent on experience

Job Description

You will lead end-to-end procurement and sourcing activities for plant, equipment and infrastructure requirements, supporting a major long-term investment programme. Working closely with internal stakeholders and external suppliers, you will develop and implement sourcing and contracting strategies, manage commercial and contractual risks, and deliver procurement solutions that meet business and project objectives. You will provide commercial and supply chain expertise, lead supplier negotiations, oversee contract award activities, and drive supplier performance to ensure value for money and successful project delivery throughout the procurement lifecycle.

Core duties:

  • Collaborating with internal stakeholders and external professional partners to develop sourcing and contracting strategies supporting a major investment programme in the North West spanning more than 10 years
  • Identifying and managing procurement, commercial and contractual risks, issues and liabilities within sourcing and contract strategies
  • Supporting and delivering procurement plans that effectively capture and meet stakeholder requirements
  • Providing commercial and supply chain expertise to support programme and project delivery teams
  • Leading end-to-end sourcing and procurement activities, including tender strategy, tender documentation, evaluation, negotiation and contract award
  • Leading commercial negotiations with suppliers to secure the best value and outcomes for the business
  • Supporting the development of supply chain strategies and driving their successful implementation
  • Managing procurement activities throughout the sourcing lifecycle, ensuring effective communication and resolution of customer and supplier issues
  • Ensuring whole-life costing principles are fully considered and embedded within procurement strategies before tender release

Essential Skills:

  • Proven procurement or supply chain experience within the plant & equipment and/or infrastructure sectors
  • Experience leading or supporting specification-based procurement activities, including design, manufacture and build requirements
  • Good understanding of procurement and commercial principles, strategies, processes, policies and best practice
  • Experience in contract management and supplier performance management
  • Stakeholder management skills with the ability to build effective working relationships across multiple functions
  • CIPS qualified, studying towards CIPS, or holding an equivalent professional qualification would be highly advantageous
