Job Title: Principal Procurement Professional

Location: Scotstoun/Govan. We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.

Salary: £45,000 to £52,000 depending on skills and experience

What you’ll be doing:

  • Managing the supplier responsibilities during delivery, installation and commissioning of key equipment on the ship

  • Working with Engineering, Operations and Quality to deliver equipment from suppliers that meets our specification, quality, schedule and cost requirements

  • Leading these multi discipline activities – e.g. weekly project reviews with suppliers, Factory Acceptance Tests of equipment, quarterly business reviews, in yard supplier visits etc.

  • Managing the contract with each supplier including delivery of milestones, negotiation of contract changes, and investigating and resolving claims for delay or poor performance

  • Using the ERM system to manage Purchase Orders and other deliverables

  • Reporting monthly and quarterly on cost and schedule performance

  • Leading on cost by actively pursuing cost reduction or cost avoidance activity, often requiring multi stakeholder buy-in

Your skills and experiences:

Essential:

  • Proven experience in direct procurement within complex environments

  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex contracts throughout the delivery phase

  • Strong commercial acumen with sound decision-making capabilities

  • Confident communicator across all levels, from operational staff to senior leadership

  • Skilled in influencing, presenting and building relationships

Desirable:

  • MCIPS qualified, or working towards CIPS certification, with relevant industry experience

  • Familiarity with project management principles, methodologies and tools

The Procurement team:

Step into a high-impact team managing three complex contracts across Category A and B products—supporting major defence programmes. You’ll work within a wider group and collaborate daily with engineering, finance, project controls and shipbuilding teams. This is a full-spectrum commercial role—from procurement and supplier audits to delivery coordination.
