Job Title: Principal Engineer – HVAC & Chilled Water
Location: Scotstoun – Glasgow. We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.
Salary: Up to £60,100 depending on qualifications and experience
What you’ll be doing:
- Carry out relatively complex technical analyses and investigations, including evaluation and selection of technical options, and prepare reports with suggested recommendations to support the resolution of problems and the improvement of engineering capability
- Carry out investigations into operational problems/emergent issues and develop and prepare solutions
- Take ownership of scope within your role and make engineering decisions within your sphere of responsibility
- Prepare specifications, develop designs in line with specifications and all quality and technical standards, and carry out design appraisals in assigned areas to ensure all standards are maintained
- Act as main point of contact with customers and/or suppliers in assigned areas on engineering matters, to resolve relatively complex problems and issues and to maintain awareness in both parties of priorities and objectives
- Provide Progress Reports for allocated work packages, ensuring that the agreed scope is delivered within budget
- Participate fully in developing, maintaining and modifying engineering processes and procedures in assigned areas in response to technical developments and operational need
- Develop the team through the L&D and performance management process, identifying training and development requirements and skill gaps
Your skills and experiences:
Applicants should ideally be Degree qualified or have equivalent experience, likely to be in a technology, engineering, science, or IT related discipline.
Applicants should be a Chartered Engineer or hold another equivalent professional registration with a relevant institution.
Essential
- Experience and expertise in Marine Engineering Systems, Defence or similar industry sector
- Experience in the design, build, integration, support and operation of HVAC Systems
- Knowledge and experience of shipbuilding
Desirable
- Knowledge of processes and tools used in Marine Engineering
- Awareness of Life Cycle Management reviews of bids and programmes
- Experience in requirements and acceptance
- Experience in Naval Ships
- Understands how marine engineering integrates into other technologies and products
- Commercial Awareness

The CSC HVAC and Chilled Water team:
The role offers a wide scope of work over the next few years, presenting significant development opportunities within a complex team supporting other domains. It requires deep specialist knowledge in mechanical aspects of HVAC and Chilled Water Systems to solve complex design challenges. The position involves understanding business processes and coordinating engineering activities to meet objectives while maintaining quality and cost efficiency. Within this role you will work close with suppliers, the customer, and other BAE functions.
The T26 HVAC and Chilled Water Design/Delivery Team
As a Principal HVAC Engineer you will be working with the T26 HVAC and Chilled water design / delivery team in an exciting phase of the project. This is a great opportunity to join the marine systems team and play a key role in delivering the first of class HMS Glasgow as we approach the setting to work and commissioning stage. Furthermore, you will be involved with the development of the design for future ships in the T26 class, which could also lead to further opportunities to work on our export programs for years to come.
