Role description:

Integrate and deliver the Combat System design solution for the Type 26 GCS (Global Combat Ship), acting as the primary technical support to various stakeholders (suppliers, customer and various internal teams) for assigned system(s). The role requires time-sensitive complex problem solving, reacting to any technical queries arising during the shipbuild, integration and testing of the Combat System. The delivery of the Combat System to schedule, cost and quality is imperative to enable successful trials which will enable the ship programme and wholeship requirements to be met.

Core Duties:

  • Ensuring the Combat System design elements are installed to specification then presenting this for formal inspection and test activities, supporting the coordination of formal trials
  • Act as the System Authorised Person ensuring that the defined Safe Systems of Work (SSOW) are at all times applied to their system(s) and that prior to any use of their system or work being conducted upon the system, the necessary SSOW controls are in place/have been applied, in compliance with the safety principles of electrical and mechanical safe systems of work (SSOW) to enable nominated sub-systems STW and trials or planned maintenance
  • Act at the Technical Design Lead when communicating with other supplier representatives and internal teams to discuss technical issues and problems
  • Liaising with other Combat System Technical Design leads, and the CS Technical Authority to ensure coherency across the Combat System and incorporation of whole ship and system requirements

Essential Skills:

  • Qualified to HND/degree level in a STEM related discipline. Applicants should be a Chartered Engineer or hold another equivalent professional registration with a relevant institution
  • You’ll have strong problem-solving capability demonstrated through working in fast-paced project environments and applying specialist knowledge to maintain delivery against schedule
  • You’ll have knowledge and experience of the physical and functional integration of Combat Systems on naval platforms

Benefits:

As well as a competitive pension scheme, BAE Systems also offers employee share plans, an extensive range of flexible discounted health, wellbeing and lifestyle benefits, including a green car scheme, private health plans and shopping discounts – you may also be eligible for an annual incentive.

The Underwater Systems Team:

The Underwater Systems team, within the wider Type 26 Combat Systems team, is highly collaborative, providing support and learning to optimise system integration on the platform. This role involves working closely with sonar equipment within the Combat System and requires predominantly on-site presence to support ship teams during installation, integration, and testing. Working hours may occasionally extend into evenings or weekends to align with the ship programme. This position offers the opportunity to contribute directly to the delivery of the Combat System for the UK Royal Navy’s Type 26 anti-submarine frigates, where sonar capability is a critical component.
