Job Title: Occupational Hygiene Technician

Location: Govan or Scotstoun, 4.5 days per week onsite, half day on Friday.

Job description:

An Occupational Hygiene Technician helps identify, assess and control health risks from workplace hazards such as noise, dust, fumes, chemicals and other potentially harmful exposures. The role involves monitoring and sampling, supporting risk assessments and providing reliable data to ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and industry standards.

Within Naval Ships, the role plays a key part in protecting worker health by identifying exposure risks and supporting the implementation of effective, inclusive control measures across shipbuilding, integration, and commissioning activities.

Core duties:

  • You will conduct exposure monitoring for welding fumes, noise, chemicals and vibration to assess workplace risks
  • Ensure you support health risk assessments throughout ship build, integration and commissioning activities
  • You will provide practical, inclusive control recommendations aligned with naval standards and shipyard operations
  • Ensure you collaborate with stakeholders to ensure occupational hygiene considerations inform decisions
  • Interpret and report occupational hygiene data to enable safe, evidence-based actions

Essential Skills:

  • Demonstrable experience delivering exposure monitoring within high‑hazard environments
  • Relevant qualification in occupational hygiene (e.g. BOHS modules, CertOH or DipOH) or working towards professional accreditation.
  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent

The SHE Technical Services Team:

You will join a highly skilled, collaborative SHE community supporting some of the UK’s most critical Naval Ship programmes.
