Salary: £51,772 – £59,491+ Depending on your level of experience

Job Description:

This role sits within the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP) Mission Systems Delivery Team and focuses on leading the integration and development of mission system capabilities for a 6th Generation combat air platform. As the Tier 3 Mission Systems Product Integration Lead, you will manage and support a team of engineers within an agile environment, ensuring mission system products are technically coherent throughout the concept and early design phases. The position involves close collaboration with international partners, MOD stakeholders, and multidisciplinary engineering teams across areas such as Electronic Warfare, Sensors, Communications, Cyber Security, Mission Management, and Safety. Responsibilities include technical leadership, requirements management, systems engineering documentation, agile delivery coordination, and supporting safety and security design activities.

Core duties:

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a growing, high-performing engineering team within a cutting-edge defence programme
  • Lead agile delivery activities including Daily Stand-Up Meetings (DSUMs), sprint planning, technical reviews, and collaborative team workshops
  • Drive engineering excellence by leading multidisciplinary technical forums and supporting the development of integrated mission system solutions
  • Create, review, and maintain high-quality systems engineering documentation throughout the engineering lifecycle
  • Collaborate closely with internal specialists, international partners, and external stakeholders to ensure aligned and effective programme delivery
  • Support requirements capture, analysis, management, and concept development activities across complex mission system capabilities
  • Contribute to the development of safety and security requirements, supporting system design activities within a highly regulated and safety-critical environment

Essential Skills:

  • Degree qualified in a STEM discipline, or equivalent industry experience within a relevant engineering environment
  • Proven experience working across the systems engineering lifecycle within complex aerospace, defence, or mission-critical programmes
  • Strong knowledge of systems engineering methodologies and tools, including MBSE approaches, UML/SysML, and tools such as CAMEO
  • Subject Matter Expertise within one or more Mission Systems domains, such as Avionics, Sensors, Electronic Warfare, Communications, Mission Management, or Cyber Security
  • Experience in avionics systems development and integration within complex platform environments
  • Strong background in requirements capture, analysis, management, and concept development activities
  • Experience developing logical architectures and supporting physical system design activities for integrated systems solutions

The Mission Systems Delivery Team:

Join the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP) Mission Systems Delivery Team and help shape the world’s first 6th Generation combat air Mission System. Working within a highly collaborative and agile environment, you’ll play a key role in developing and integrating advanced mission system capabilities across one of the world’s most exciting aerospace and defence programmes.

As the Tier 3 Mission Systems Product Integration Lead, you’ll lead a team of engineers through the concept and early design phases, ensuring mission system solutions are integrated, coherent, and aligned across the wider platform.

The role offers exposure to a broad range of cutting-edge technologies including Electronic Warfare, Sensors, Communications, Mission Management, Cyber Security, Cockpit/HMI, Navigation, and Safety, while working closely with international partners and stakeholders across the UK, Italy, and Japan.
