Role Description:

We have a new exciting opportunity role within our Manufacturing and Support LoB, responsible for providing guidance, strategy, task allocation, governance and support to the Production Engineering team in a variety of activities within the manufacturing environment.

As the Lead Production Engineer, you may be required to be a Manufacturing Technical Authority in an appropriate field and exercise the duties of a Manufacturing Technical Authority.

Core Duties:

• Oversight, input and governance to the design of the manufacturing system aligned with the assigned product(s) to be manufactured, including ensuring safe systems of work, safe equipment and processes
• Provide the interface between production operations (shop floor) and other engineering disciplines, interpreting documents as required, to resolve manufacturing issues
• Provide the technical interface between Advanced Manufacturing and design projects regarding Design for Manufacture considerations, design change impacts to the Manufacturing System and resolution of issues affecting manufacturability
• Lead Production Readiness reviews as required, to introduce designs to Production staff
• Lead the assigned Manufacturing Engineering team to support the above responsibilities
• Maintain the Configuration Management of the Manufacturing System with support of the Configuration Controller
• Represent Production Engineering at the Configuration Control Board and Material Review Board
• Identify, plan and estimate, and lead improvements to the Manufacturing System (process changes, introduction of new capital, etc.) to eliminate waste in all aspects of the business
• Ensure the MRP requirements for Production Engineering inputs are correct and processes followed
• Provide professional engineering technical and operational support that is accurate, safe, on-time and on-budget to support project, task and bid activities
• Use your experience in finding and resolving root causes to quality or process issues
• Offer advice and resolution to the BU on engineering and production interface issues, facilities upgrades, execution of current contracts and to bid teams responding to tender
• Mentor less senior staff to build their knowledge and technical capability
• Assist the Advanced Manufacturing Program Engineering Manager in setting and executing functional strategy

Essential Skills:

• Significant experience within a production engineering capacity
• Ability to communicate and build relationships with people at all levels (verbal and written skills)
• Degree level qualifications in an Engineering discipline and engineering experience enabling eligibility for admission to the Institution of Engineers, Australia, as a Chartered Professional
• Demonstrated practical and extensive knowledge of manufacturing processes in a commercial and / or defence environment
• Defence security clearance or eligibility to obtain
• Eligibility to be cleared for International Traffic In Arms (ITAR) regulations
