Job Description:

As a Manual Software Tester, you will play a key role in ensuring the quality, reliability and usability of software applications. Working closely with developers, product teams and other stakeholders, you will review requirements and user stories to identify any gaps, ambiguities or potential issues before development is completed. You will create and execute detailed test cases, manually validating new features and system changes against business requirements. Responsibilities include logging, tracking and retesting defects, providing clear evidence and documentation to support issue resolution. You will perform regression testing to ensure existing functionality remains unaffected by updates and enhancements. The role also involves developing comprehensive test plans and producing test closure reports to support release decisions. Using a variety of testing techniques, including functional, exploratory, usability, compatibility, integration and negative testing, you will help deliver high-quality software solutions while providing regular feedback and testing updates to project teams.

Core duties:

• Review requirements and user stories – understanding what the software is supposed to do and identify any unclear or missing requirements
• Create and execute test cases – write clear test scenarios and manually test new features and changes
• Log and manage Defect – record defects clearly, including steps to reproduce, expected vs actual results with screenshots and evidence. Retest once fixed by the developer
• Perform regression testing – Re-test existing functionality after changes to ensure the quality of the software remains
• Write Test Plans and Closure reports – detail what and how testing will be performed and then detail what tests have been executed and whether the software is suitable for deployment
• Perform different types of testing – Carry out functional, exploratory, useability, compatibility, negative testing and integration testing
• Work closely with the developers and the wider team – Discuss defects, clarify requirements, attend stand-ups and provide testing updates and feedback

Your Skills and Experience:

• ISTQB foundation testing qualification or equivalent experience in a manual software test role
• Experience working with Jira, Confluence, Xray and reporting tools such as Tableau and Cognos
• An analytical mind set and able to use relevant data and information to solve problems
• SQL and TDV (test, design, verification) knowledge

The Manual Test team:

The Manual Test Team provides testing support across a wide range of projects within the Air Sector, working alongside the Automation Test Team to form the Test Competency Centre within the Engineering Systems Competency Centre (ESCC).

Through the adoption of industry best practices, the team helps ensure quality and consistency across the products and services delivered by ESCC.
