Job Title: Lead Technologist – Simulation
Salary: Up to £70,000 (depending on skills and experience)
Location: Portsmouth Broad Oak – 3 days on site, 2 days working from home.

What you’ll be doing:
This role plays a pivotal part in shaping and driving the MIMESIS Product Strategy, ensuring it evolves in line with customer needs, market trends and emerging technologies. You will help manage the product roadmap, IP framework, product breakdown structure and cost and licensing models, providing the structure and clarity needed to guide long‑term product development. Working as a connector across the organisation, you will collaborate with other BAE Systems businesses, partners and external stakeholders to advance simulation capability and unlock new opportunities within the Simulation and Training domain. A key part of the role is communicating the product vision with clarity and purpose, ensuring alignment across teams and stakeholders.
Alongside this, you will work closely with the Product Delivery Lead and System Design Authority to support horizon scanning, identifying technologies and future ways of working that will strengthen the product’s competitive edge. You will also contribute to workforce planning by helping define the skills and expertise required to deliver new solutions and advising on recruitment needs. In doing so, you play a crucial part in ensuring the right technology solutions are developed and that the right people are in place to deliver them, positioning MIMESIS for sustained success.
Core Duties:
- You’ll have demonstrated experience in leadership, engagement, and management within an engineering or technology-related environment.
- You will understand and discuss technical topics (including product strategy and roadmap, project integration, software development, Agile delivery, infrastructure, cost structures, and product licence management), without needing to be the subject-matter expert.
- You’ll have Experience in software and/or systems engineering.
- You’ll have Experience in project management and/or product development, with the ability to deliver outcomes aligned to project and business objectives.
The Product Team:
As Lead Technologist in the MIMESIS Product Team, you will help shape and deliver advanced simulation technologies, working closely with the Product Delivery Lead, System Design Authority and specialists across BAE Systems and partner organisations. MIMESIS provides a sophisticated maritime battlespace simulation, modelling environmental conditions, platform behaviour and complex systems such as sonar, radar and weapons. It supports naval training, enables exploration of future concepts and allows engineering teams to test and validate systems safely, improving readiness, reducing risk and accelerating capability development.
