Role Description:

This is an onsite role based at Adelaide / Melbourne.

We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, such as working a 9-day fortnight.

Reporting to the JORN Cyber Manager, you will lead a small team of analysts focussed on specific cyber security capabilities.

Core Duties:

As the Cyber Operations Lead role manages a cyber operations team protecting critical ICT and operational environments. This role blends hands-on technical leadership with incident response, vulnerability management and cross-team collaboration.

  • Lead cyber monitoring and triage through SIEM and Service Desk channels
  • Provide practical cyber security advice to ICT, Product Security and GRC Teams
  • Drive vulnerability management, including scanning, CVE prioritisation and reporting
  • Assess and respond to zero-day threats and emerging risks
  • Maintain and enhance internal SIEM configuration to support detection of internal threats
  • Lead cyber incident response activities from end-to-end
  • Build team capability through coaching and tool-based training (Splunk, Nessus, OPSWAT)
  • Travel periodically to remote sites as required to support cyber awareness training and audits

Essential Skills:

  • Cyber Security, ICT or Engineering related degree or equivalent
  • Proven experience leading a small team of cyber security or ICT professionals
  • Demonstrated experience working in incident response and log analysis
  • Detailed understanding and experience with cyber security technologies such as AV, EDR, SIEM, Email and Web proxies, and Vulnerability Scanners
  • Experience in ICT fundamentals such as systems administration and networking
  • Good understanding of Information security manual (ISM) and other global Industry security standards (NIST, ISO, PCI DSS, etc.) relating to IT & OT Security
  • Good understanding of programming/ scripting in languages such as Bash/ Python/ PowerShell
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex security issues and recommend effective solutions
  • Broad stakeholder communication skills (cross-functional), strong customer focus able to utilise negotiation skills and manage potential conflicts
  • Defence security clearance NV1 and eligibility to obtain NV2
  • Eligibility to be cleared for International Traffic In Arms (ITAR) regulations
