Role description:

In this role, you will lead the team delivering the Sensors, Weapons and Platform Management System for the Type 26 Programme, ensuring consistent project management practices and informed decision‑making across the Combat System domain. You will oversee Control Account Management for approximately £600m of scope, maintaining effective performance monitoring and delivery against plan.

You will collaborate with the Combat Systems Platform Integration Delivery Manager to align programme elements, including Project Hopper, Batch 2 Obsolescence Solutions and Combat System Make initiatives. The role also includes building stakeholder relationships, leading the T26 Batch 3 bid, preparing for new scope and developing the team while managing change.

Core duties:

  • Ensuring teams follow essential procedures and influence strategy, resource planning, and policy development within the area of responsibility
  • Developing project and wider functional plans aligned with business, operational, and organisational priorities
  • Leading and coaching managers and team members, including performance reviews, development, and personnel actions
  • Fulfilling LCM responsibilities by preparing for all reviews, ensuring compliance with tailoring statements, and providing complete project information incorporating learning from experience.
  • Guiding teams in project management techniques, supporting tailored practice adoption, and overseeing training, quality, and capability development

Essential skills:

  • You can apply advanced project management expertise, along with good commercial and financial awareness, to lead complex projects and develop innovative solutions
  • You maintain a deep understanding of the business environment, guiding resource allocation and contributing to policy development with minimal senior oversight
  • You can communicate effectively and influence senior internal and external stakeholders to drive alignment and successful delivery
  • You bring a good professional foundation, supported by degree level education and recognised PM qualifications (or equivalent experience), with the capability to act as an LCM Assessor or Chairperson
  • You can support and guide managers and teams, helping them grow through coaching, quality feedback, and fair talent decisions

The Combat Systems Project Management Team:

Join the Type 26 Combat Systems Project Management Team, a collaborative, fast‑paced group delivering one of the world’s most advanced naval capabilities.
